Today's project from the JGMA archive is Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (2015)! As the third largest Archdiocese in the United States, Chicago is home to a profound and deeply rooted tradition of honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe. Each year, thousands of pilgrims gather to celebrate her, creating one of the largest observances in the country. Responding to the need for a more formal, sacred space in Chicagoland, the parish aimed to transform an old gymnasium into a sanctuary that would honor the Virgin of Guadalupe's spirit at the very site where the pilgrimage takes place annually. Our team’s design embraced this vision, integrating bold geometry and mirrored finishes that would echo the statue of Guadalupe located within its garden. The space fostered a deepened connection for all who journey here, offering a place to pause, reflect, and find comfort. #Architecture #Design #LatinxArchitect #Chicago

We were honored to host the Illinois Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (I-NOMA) Design Build Program, welcoming a group of high school students excited to explore the world of architecture and design. This program is dedicated to exposing students to the opportunities within design-related fields, providing them with essential skills and offering a deeper understanding of the processes behind project development. It was a truly rewarding experience to guide these students as they embarked on their journey of designing and building furniture for Broader Urban Involvement & Leadership Development (BUILD Chicago), a local nonprofit committed to empowering youth facing systemic challenges. Exciting progress continues on Grace Manor, an affordable housing project that merges the legacy of Route 66 with the architectural character of its surrounding neighborhood. With a vibrant façade and thoughtfully designed outdoor terraces, this development is set to enhance residents' quality of life. Currently, the construction team is installing a detailed mockup, featuring the ribbon cornice, metal panels, window flashing, and window frames—highlighting key elements of the exterior façade system. Today JGMA's project from the archive is the Gads Hill Center (2015)! Located in Brighton Park, the Gads Hill Early Learning Center stands as a testament to the power of preserving history while meeting community needs. By repurposing an existing building, this project highlights not only the importance of sustainability but also the healing of neighborhoods by revitalizing their architectural past. Blending historical richness with innovative design, Gads Hill Center provides essential early education services that have transformed the lives of over 1,000 young children and their families. Through center-based education, parent engagement, and home-visiting programs, the center continues to nurture and uplift the Brighton Park community. This impactful event brought together inspiring voices. Juan participated in the "Empowering Journeys: Leadership Insights from Successful Business Leaders" panel, moderated by MIT professor Roberto Rigobon, alongside Ignacio Meyer, President of U.S. Networks at TelevisaUnivision. During the panel, Juan shared his personal journey as a Colombian-born Latino architect, reflecting on the challenges he faced and the perseverance that led him to found one of the largest Latino-owned architecture firms in the United States. We are thrilled to share the transformation of the former SEARS Department Store at White Oaks Mall into our state office transformation project in Springfield! The once dark, windowless interior typical of department stores has been transformed into a bright, open space filled with natural light. Skylights and clerestory windows open the space to the world outside, creating a sense of connection and bringing new energy to every part of the building.
