Co-Chief Investment Strategist Matthew Miskin CFA, offers his take on earnings season and the market outlook in our weekly #MarketIntelligence: https://bit.ly/3YdvJ5J #Earnings #MarketOutlook #Economy
S&P 500 Q2 earnings season has started strong with growth tracking 9.7% best since Q1 of 2021. Retail sales were better than the headline suggested, and we have Prime day likely to help this month. Initial jobless claims rose, but that was likely driven from hurricane Beryl in Texas. We receive Q2 U.S. GDP this week with the Atlanta Fed GDPNow tracking 2.7%. Otherwise, another big week for earnings reports with consumer discretionary and communication services heavy weights. In terms of an investment theme, we talk about how regional banks in 2016 were the epicenter of the "Trump trade." John Hancock Investment Management

Co-Chief Investment Strategist Matthew Miskin CFA, focuses on inflation and its impact on the market outlook in our weekly #MarketIntelligence: https://bit.ly/3Y5FN0A #Inflation #MarketOutlook #Economy
The #CPI report changed everything last week (or did it?) and initial jobless claims fell back down. The CPI (#inflation) report came in below expectations setting off a rotation across global equities, with small cap stocks being the biggest beneficiary. The bond market is now pricing in 3 rate cuts to end the year. Initial jobless claims coming down with milder inflation increases odds of a soft landing. This week we have Q2 earnings season kicking into gear with big names in financials, health care, and communication services reporting. In addition, retail sales and housing data on tap. Co-Chief Investment Strategist Matthew Miskin CFA, unpacks Friday’s jobs report, the market outlook, and economy in our weekly #MarketIntelligence: https://bit.ly/3LgBisk #JobsReport #MarketOutlook #Economy
If the U.S. #economy had a relationship status, it would be it's complicated. We had two different U.S. business surveys showing vastly different trends in June from the #ISM reflecting a deterioration to the S&P (previously Markit) with an improvement to 2-year highs. The June #jobs report had a similar story with the headline job gains beating expectations at +206k, but prior two month revisions were -111k. The biggest sectors for job gains government +70k and health care +49k. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.1%. This week we have another key #CPI (inflation) report on tap.
