Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) is the world’s largest family camping company, helping family and friends enjoy the great outdoors for 55 years. Founded in 1962, our franchising company has more than 500 campground locations across North America, and each year is nationally recognized for our work in public relations, marketing and franchise satisfaction. From our humble beginnings on the banks of the Yellowstone River in Billings, Montana, KOA has become an iconic brand throughout the U.S. and Canada. Our “Yellow Sign” acts as a beacon of fun and relaxation for campers, and a badge of honor for our employees.     Yesterday, we celebrated our new headquarters in a dedication ceremony that honored our partners, dedicated employees, and our ongoing commitment to the outdoors and sustainability. Envisioned by Billings, MT-based A&E Design, KOA's 35,000-square-foot building earned LEEd Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its sustainable design. "KOA was founded 62 years ago with a very modest campground on a plot of land next to the Yellowstone River and we're now the world's largest network of privately owned campgrounds and the definitive leader in outdoor hospitality," said Toby O'Rourke, CEO and president of Kampgrounds of America, Inc. "We felt that a company of that magnitude deserved its own home, not only as a home base for our 1,500 employees across the country but for our 500 franchisees; this is a big deal."   • Independence Bank has been a critical partner, helping countless entrepreneurs create and grow their campground businesses. Join us in recognizing this decades-long relationship that has been fundamental to the growth of outdoor hospitality and the KOA brand.

    Yesterday, we honored Independence Bank, a long-time friend of KOA and our franchisees, as one of our "foundational partners." When we designed our new office, we created a space to recognize organizations that have been pivotal to our company's growth and success over time. We were proud to formally recognize and thank them. Independence Bank, headquartered in Havre, Montana, has allowed our franchise business to flourish by becoming one of the few financial institutions that learned the business of campgrounds and invested in our franchisees as they borrowed to buy and expand their operations. Nearly $700 million in loans have been given to over 250 locations in our system over the past twenty years. Their team is a frequent presenter and guest at our new franchise orientation sessions, 20 group meetings, prospective buyer workshops, and our annual convention.     Who is the North American camper? KOA's Camper Profile, the sixth release of the 2024 Camping & Outdoor Hospitality report series, shines more light on the millions who call themselves campers and how the camping audience has changed over the last decade. Findings include: 📈 Camping households have increased by 68% since 2014, resulting in over 53.6 million active camping households in 2023. 👨👩👧 60% of campers began camping before age 18, fostering a lifelong love for the outdoors. ⛺ The average camper spends 6.7 nights camping annually and expends $156 a day in local communities. 🛜 New campers are more diverse and connected, with 48% considering Wi-Fi the most important campground amenity.     Our latest Camping & Outdoor Hospitality Report focuses on the connection between wellness and the outdoors. Since the inception of KOA’s annual camping research, campers have reported that physical and mental wellness benefits are the driving force behind their participation in camping. This report finds: 🌲 Over 9 million households plan to include a wellness experience this year. The most common activities include forest bathing (83%) and water-based activities (70%). 🌱 Millennials lead the charge for wellness, saying camping boosts their emotional well-being. 📵 65% of campers find the idea of a digital detox appealing. 🧘 Today’s campers seek simplicity and connection, preferring spontaneous and individualized experiences within nature verse structured activities.   • While glamping is one of camping's newest categories, it now stands out as one of the most popular introductions to camping. The fourth release in our Camping & Outdoor Hospitality Report Series examines the growing importance of glamping, now a formidable component of the camping landscape. 2024 Highlights of the Camping & Outdoor Hospitality Glamping Report: 🏕️ With low barriers to entry that are attractive to both those interested in camping and leisure travelers, one-third of new campers said they tried glamping in 2023. 🔄 First-time glampers are eager to get back outdoors, with an impressive 80% sharing that they plan to continue glamping or camping. 🛜 Glampers tend to be younger and more tech-savvy than other campers. A higher propensity to work while traveling makes Wi-Fi an important factor in deciding where to stay. 🏡 Cabins are the preferred accommodations among glampers (29%), followed by canvas glamping/safari tents (18%), and tiny homes (15%). 🚶🏽♀️ Compared to other travelers, glampers are more comfortable with solo travel; 27% have taken solo trips in the past and plan to do so again in 2024.
