Lisa, a Cancer Services Nurse known for her compassion and patient-centered care, has been awarded the July Nurse Daisy Award. Her unwavering dedication to her patients is evident in every interaction, where she goes above and beyond to provide comfort and support during their challenging journeys. Lisa's commitment to excellence and empathy sets a profound example for her colleagues and inspires confidence and gratitude among those she cares for. "Our world was flipped upside down as we found out my husband had cancer just after our son's first birthday. We went into his first treatment with emotions of fear, concern, and devastation. Our anxiety was quickly put to ease, and we were greeted by Lisa's warm and caring smile. She instantly made us feel at ease as she explained every step of the process and what the next six months would look like for us. Lisa was always finding new ways to make the process as easy and comfortable as possible. Whether it was trying a new medication or discovering not to use pre-filled syringes, she wanted to make the process as easy as she could. Even on weeks when she wasn't assigned as our nurse, she was checking in on us and asking about our son. There were also many times I got to witness her interactions with other patients. I would watch as she would remember details about their family or pets, showing just how much of a caring and compassionate nurse she is. Many times, my husband and I would walk into treatments saying, "I really hope Lisa is the nurse today!". As we finish up my husband's last treatment, we are excited to be leaving, but we also have the feeling of sadness that we will not see Lisa's beautiful smile as we walk in. Lisa will always be a special part of our family's life, and we can't wait to tell our little guy about the amazing lady who helped Daddy get better. Thank you, Lisa!" Please join us in congratulating Lisa for this well-deserved recognition! #daisyfoundation #daisyaward #kootenaihealth #nursingexcellence

We're thrilled to announce that Sarah, an outstanding nurse from PACU, has been awarded the June Daisy Nurse Award! Sarah's work to ensure her patients feel seen, heard, and cared for and her unwavering commitment to her patients shines through in every interaction. Her work is a profound example of how a nurse's compassion and kindness can impact lives. "This last week was the worst I've ever had. My husband and I were told that I was miscarrying at just over nine weeks of our first pregnancy. We were devastated to learn that the baby's heart had stopped beating days before and was told that I would need to get a D&C because of how far along I was. I was discharged from the ED and told to follow up with my OB to get the surgery scheduled. For the next couple of days, I was in severe pain due to cramping while awaiting the procedure, and emotionally, I was a wreck. Upon admission into the PACU, I was greeted by Sarah, who was an absolute joy. She was informative, personable, and compassionate. Her light-hearted spirit helped me to smile for the first time in days. She also acknowledged that while this was happening inside my body, that the pain of our miscarriage also impacts my husband. She spoke to him with kindness and expressed her sympathy for what we were both going through. After being discharged, Sarah called to check on me the next day. The entire team sent a card to my house as well. I've never had a hospital experience like this before, and I'm fairly certain I never will again. I am beyond proud of my Kootenai family and thankful for Sarah." Please join us in congratulating Sarah for this well-deserved recognition! #daisyfoundation #daisyaward #kootenaihealth #nursingexcellence
