Grateful is an understatement. I had the honor of attending La Cocina's La Red Conferencia last week + weekend and it was exactly what my mind, body, and soul needed. The only conference for Latines by Latines in the IECMH field. La Cocina is an IECMH grantee and my supervisor Tonia M. Spence and I were invited to learn alongside the group and see the foundation’s dollars in action. I am so very thankful to the Latines and native Tamaya people who welcomed us with open arms. Janina, the Founder and CEO of La Cocina, says social justice work isn’t a privilege, and she's right. It’s a calling that often times is extractive, difficult, and dangerous. Spaces and events like this affirm that when I trust God’s plan + fight and protect being my most authentic self and do the same for others, mountains are moved and miracles happen 🫶🏾✨

We couldn't be more excited to announce that our highly anticipated national Conferencia Weaving La Red: 2024 Threads of La Revolución will be held this year at the beautiful Tamaya Resort in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, July 11-14, 2024. Weaving La Red: 2024 Threads of La Revolución is the only Spanish and English Latine-centered conference dedicated to the social and emotional health of Latine birthing parents and infancy and early childhood mental health in the United States. For four days, we are gathering lo mejor de lo nuestro, our best conspirators and thought partners, to be in community, weaving this network. May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month. Maternal mental health issues including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and substance abuse are caused by biological and/or socioeconomic factors during and/or after a pregnancy and affect one in five birthing people in the United States. Disparities and inequities abound: within marginalized communities, that number is as high as one in three. Without sufficient support and resources, maternal mental health can have a significant impact on both mothers and children. Perigee Fund partners with leaders in the field – centering those who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color – who are reimagining how society and systems must more fully conceptualize and respond to maternal mental health to equitably see and serve more people. #PerigeeFund #MMHAM2024 #MaternalMentalHealth
