#AI #Chile | Interview with Cenia: Centro Nacional de Inteligencia Artificial, the National Center of Artificial Intelligence in Chile. On the risks of automation in connection to AI: “While many may lose their jobs, a way to solve that is to understand which are the skills that are irreplaceable. Like confidence, the capacity of having critical thinking... These are the kind of abilities and skills that we should improve inside our workforce instead of training people to make things that machines can do better. "…The second element that worries me more I think is the risk of alienation. Machines are getting much better at doing a lot of different things…I don’t think that’s a productivity or a work problem. I think it’s much deeper, in the way that we are getting lazier. We can lose some abilities because it’s much easier to ask the machine…We are also losing something: Curiosity, curiosity to know. That’s my biggest fear, not the loss of jobs.” “The elephant in the room is the consumption of energy of this technology, only for the development and the training of, for example, GPT 3.5…. The energy consumption of this big machine where this modem sleeps is the big issue that no one is talking about. We are trying to talk about that and we have to move to a green AI paradigm.” https://lnkd.in/gXWfEDUP #ia #ai #chile #latinamerica

#Uruguay | President Luis Lacalle Pou on government leaders and public service: "How many public servants wake up every day across the country to make things run? How many open a fire station, a court, a police station, a hospital, or a clinic? "Without diminishing anyone, I proudly say I’ve seen people who do what is required by regulation, who do what their role dictates, but who also do a little more. We all know that doing just what’s required is fine. "But a community changes, improves, and grows when those who do what they must, decide to do a little more for themselves and their people, for themselves and their town. "In smaller communities, that becomes evident immediately when there are committed people who care, who know, and who bring love to their tasks." https://lnkd.in/gdqpaF8k

"The Intersection of Energy and Gender Inequality" by Amelia Eves . In Latin America and the Caribbean today, 17 million people do not have access to electricity and 75 million do not have access to clean cooking technologies and fuels. Those without access to electricity and clean cooking are typically poor, rural, and Indigenous communities. Instead of electric cookstoves or gas-powered stoves, these communities depend on biomass-fed fire pits. The smoke and ash emitted from traditional stoves are not only harmful to the environment, but the byproducts have various negative effects on human health. https://lnkd.in/gCrjG2As
