It's been a milestone week for the Alkali Earth team! Our R&D field site was finally deployed and instrumented! 🪨 🛣 🌎 The steel slag aggregates we work with naturally remove CO2 from the atmosphere. We've always known that. Our challenge is how to accelerate this (already fast) reaction in order to reach the scale of CDR that makes a dent in global emissions. With these pads, we're testing various gravel aggregate deployment scenarios to see which is optimal for CDR. We're on the road to learn more about the rate of these awesome geochemical reactions! Dr. Turcan TEKER, an Assistant Professor of Viticulture, and his master's student, Ceren D. from Eskişehir Osmangazi Üniversitesi, are currently conducting a study in Manisa, Türkiye. They are focusing on the effects of rising temperatures and artificial shading on grapevine physiology. The study involves evaluating the impact of artificial shading and leaf removal treatments on grapevine bunch zones at different growth stages. 🍇 To assess the physiological responses of the vines, they are using the LI-6800 gas analyzer. The objective of this research is to gain a better understanding of how vine physiology reacts to these treatments. 🌱 Additionally, they aim to address issues such as sunburn, which have become more common due to the increasing temperatures in the Mediterranean climate. We are proud to support Dr. Teker's research efforts!

In a recent study, researchers used the LI-7500 Open Path CO2/H20 Analyzer and LI-6400XT to capture detailed CO₂ fluxes and measure photosynthetic rates in winter wheat under varying light conditions. Erika Bucior at the USDA-ARS National Peanut Research Lab is utilizing the LI-6800 and LI-600 for plant ecophysiology research. 🌱 These instruments play a key role in measuring gas exchange and transpiration across various peanut genotypes, helping to quantify resource use efficiency and stress tolerance, particularly in relation to drought.
