Together We Can Do More
About us
Life Science Cares is a collective effort of the life science industry to help address the impact of poverty on our neighbors in the greater Philadelphia, Boston, and San Diego areas. Through uniting the human and financial resources of life science companies and industry leaders, we support non-profit organizations that do the best work in fighting poverty and providing educational opportunity in our community. We work with organizations doing work in the areas of basic human survival (hunger, homelessness, domestic abuse, crime prevention, etc.), education (STEM education, college preparation and college success, educational enrichment and inspiration, etc.) and sustainability (job creation, job training, mentoring, and economic development.)

Life science friends—we really need your help! Please consider being a virtual math tutor this fall, winter, or spring. We have an urgent need for tutors right now for our program with sixth-graders in Milford, MA. Please share widely as we need several more volunteers to continue with this successful and impactful program—the results have been impressive!

Early exposure to the STEM field provides students with the opportunity to learn about the range of career pathways in the field and how they can prepare to become successful in specific careers. We appreciate AnaptysBio for participating in a career panel with our JA Fellows at Chula Vista Learning Community Charter to share insights on what it is like to work in the biotech field and on their own career journeys. Thank you, Daniel Faga, Amanda Habel, and Cynthia Alexander, PhD, for taking the time to speak with our students and Life Science Cares San Diego and Alicia Quinn Kitagawa for helping to organize this career panel.

Our third annual Impact Breakfast was electric with a room full of passionate life science pioneers and nonprofit leaders who are driving change in San Diego! A heartfelt thank you to our generous table sponsors: Deloitte, Cooley LLP,PNC, Marsh McLennan, Bench International, and Halloran Consulting Group, Inc.! It was inspiring to hear from our corporate partner, Avidity Biosciences, Inc., who recently hosted students at their labs, providing access to career opportunities that often seem out of reach. We also heard from our dedicated board of managers and advisors, whose leadership continues to guide our mission forward. A highlight of the morning was hearing from Wesley House Student Residence, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting housing-insecure college students. We were deeply moved by the story of one student who shared her journey from being an unhoused young mom to pursuing higher education, thanks to the critical support she received from Wesley House. Together, we’re creating lasting impact and empowering those in our community who need it most. Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday! If the event inspired you, we invite you to reach out and discover how you can get involved in making a difference.

A massive thank you to the team at Schrödinger for their support building hygiene kits! Their team not only assembled 50 hygiene kits but also wrote heartfelt messages and their best dad jokes to put in each kit. The folks getting services from Serving Seniors will definitely feel the support when they get these essential basic need items as they navigate their way out of unhousement with the support from Serving Seniors. Before diving into the project, the team gained valuable insights into the challenges of unhousement through a video highlighting someone's personal journey and how the resources provided at Serving Seniors were able to get them from being unhoused to having a stable place to call home. They then efficiently organized themselves into an assembly line, ensuring maximum productivity and impact. We're incredibly grateful for their dedication and support in making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need!
