Eden Spottedbear, originally from Claremore, OK, moved to Denver in July 2019. As a single mom, she struggled to find work due to a lack of experience, leaving her feeling defeated. Everything changed when she discovered The Master's Apprentice Program, a Lowe’s Foundation #GableGrant recipient. "I get a sign every day that this is where I'm supposed to be," Eden says. She graduated from the carpentry program, gaining the skills and confidence she needed. "I can officially get a job now – I’m not so closed off anymore." Through the program, Eden built a community of supportive coaches and friends. "To have so many job offers now is such a blessing. I’ve worked so hard to get here, facing so many challenges, but it didn’t stop me." Today, Eden is a Cabinet and Furniture Restoration Technician at Furniture Medic. “Skilled trades offer a lot of opportunities to make good money. If you want to make good money, go into the trades, “ said Cayden Collier, an Electrical student at Howard College Cayden learned about the skilled trades at a young age from an uncle who was a civilian lineman contractor for the U.S. Air Force. Learning about his uncle’s work inspired Cayden to explore skilled trades education through his high school’s construction skills program. There, he learned the basics of electrical work and realized his love for working with his hands. Eventually, he plans to become a master electrician, have his own apprentices and maybe even his own business. #SkilledVoices
