NEW RESEARCH: Causes of maternal deaths Key takeaways: 🔹 Haemorrhage - severe bleeding - is still the leading cause of maternal deaths globally. most of these deaths occur in the postpartum period when timely care is critical. 🔹 Hypertensive disorders are the leading cause in Latin America & the Caribbean. 🔹 Health conditions, including both infectious and chronic diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria, anaemias, and diabetes, underpin nearly a quarter (23%) of pregnancy and childbirth-related mortality. This research highlights urgent gaps in maternal health and the need for stronger health systems to support healthy pregnancies, births and postnatal care. This #WorldHealthDay, let’s commit to: ✅ Expanding access to life-saving maternal care. ✅ Investing in postpartum health & long-term well-being. ✅ Ensuring policies protect women’s health & rights. 📄 Read the full study: https://bit.ly/4ky3ya4 👏 Congratulations to HRP colleagues Jenny Cresswell, Doris Chou, Ann-Beth Moller and Lale Say for their important contribution to this critical research! #HopefulFutures #SRHR #HealthForAll
