About us
MACDC is the policy and capacity-building arm of the community development movement in Massachusetts, which fundamentally aims to work with low- and moderate-income individuals and families throughout the Commonwealth. As our mission states: "The Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations (MACDC) is an association of mission-driven community development organizations dedicated to working together and with others to create places of opportunity where people of diverse incomes and backgrounds access housing that is affordable, benefit from economic opportunities and fully participate in the civic life of their community. We achieve this by building and sustaining a high performing and adaptive community development sector that is supported by private and public investment and sound public policies." Founded in 1982, MACDC currently has 90 members, including 60 CDC members and 30 associate members.

With arguments coming next month before the Supreme Judicial Court, we are proud to be a signatory on an amicus brief that supports enforcement of the MBTA Communities Act. A huge thank you to Citizens' Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) for their leadership, and to the more than 30 other organizations who signed on. Read the brief here https://lnkd.in/e74jXsKU We applaud the vast majority of MBTA communities across the state that have improved their zoning in light of this law, which over time will result in thousands upon thousands of new housing units that our neighbors so desperately need. But a vast majority is not enough. Laws are not guidelines. They are not optional. And every municipality must follow them. We look forward to the SJC's decision, to the day when the holdout MBTA communities accept that they, too, must abide by the law.

MACDC seeks an evaluation consultant to identify learnings from the first two years of a five-year grant awarded by the Massachusetts Community Health and Healthy Aging Funds for our Housing Quality and Health (HQH) Equity Initiative. The HQH Equity Initiative is guided by our previously established HQH Task Force, whose goal is to increase the quality of the State’s existing housing stock and thereby significantly contribute to the elimination of racial disparities in health outcomes. Proposals are due September 6, 2024.
