About us

The mission of the Maine Association of Nonprofits (MANP) is to enrich the quality of community and personal life in Maine by strengthening the leadership, voice, and organizational effectiveness of our state’s vital nonprofits. Advancing: MANP serves as a strong voice for the sector, researching, defending and promoting the sector’s impact in Maine, and empowering our members to do so as well. We develop and deliver training and resources to staff and volunteers of nonprofits across the state so that they can legally and effectively lobby on behalf of issues important to their missions. Connecting: MANP strives to create a vibrant community of nonprofits representing different regions, mission areas, and sizes. We connect leaders to one another and help organizations find and develop new talent. We facilitate connections across sectors, and convene nonprofit leaders to discuss critical issues facing the sector. Strengthening: MANP fosters a skilled, efficient and innovative sector. We provide guidance on management best practices and legal compliance, and offer high-quality trainings, resources and tools that enhance organizational governance and the recruitment, retention and professional development of nonprofit employees. We work to build the capacity of the sector to develop their existing and emerging leaders.

  • Great news! ... BREAKING: The Office of Management and Budget has rescinded its memo pausing all agency grants and loans. While we hope this will enable people in Maine communities and across the country to breathe a sigh of relief, this week’s experience is likely a preview of future efforts to delay or restrict funding. Now is the time for nonprofits receiving federal funding to shore up their networks and make contingency plans.

❗️The White House has *rescinded the memo* that would have halted all federal grants and loans❗️ Nonprofits throughout the country - and the people they serve - can breathe a sigh of relief now that the White House has backed off its reckless and harmful plan to halt funding for critical programs from homeless/housing assistance, to disaster relief and rebuilding, to rape crisis centers and suicide hotlines. Keep doing your extraordinary, important work throughout the country, and we’ll stay vigilant and ready to act.

  • Last night, the Trump Administration announced an immediate freeze of federal grant, loan, and other financial assistance funds as of 5pm today pending review of their compliance with executive orders it has issued in the past week. As of this writing, our partners at the National Council of Nonprofits, together with public health and small business leaders, have just filed a Motion for Temporary Restraining Order in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to block the White House Office of Management and Budget from pausing all federal agency grants and loans. Find more information on our blog: https://lnkd.in/egaMBaap Actions to Take Now: ➡ Draw Down Federal Funds - If you receive federal funds, we recommend drawing down funds before 5pm today. Some funds may already be inaccessible. ➡ Share Your Story - MANP is working closely with local, regional, and national partners to tell the story of the potential impacts of this sweeping action on Maine people and communities should this freeze move forward. If your organization's mission is impacted by this executive order, or any of the other Executive Orders, please complete this brief form: https://lnkd.in/e3-Bxidt This is a quickly moving issue, and we will be keeping our network informed as developments occur.
