Since his inauguration, President Trump has signed dozens of executive orders covering a broad range of issues, including many that impact charitable nonprofits directly or indirectly. Some won’t take effect immediately and will be challenged in court. Check out our analysis of how the executive orders may impact diversity, equity, and inclusion programs; government grants and contracts; civic engagement; immigration; and certain nonprofit subsectors: https://bit.ly/4jslYIM We will be updating this document as more executive orders are announced. #Nonprofits #CommunityImpact

The Office of Management and Budget rescinded its memo calling for a freeze of federal funding, but many nonprofits are still experiencing issues accessing their funds. Our lawsuit against the White House remains active and we will share updates as we have them. Here is what you can do today: 1️⃣ Help us collect stories of how the recent executive orders and/or the OMB memo on freezing federal funding is impacting the work and communities that nonprofits serve: https://bit.ly/3PTAcVO 2️⃣ Stay in the loop by signing up for our newsletters: https://lnkd.in/gzTqKjdV 3️⃣ Keep checking our resources on the executive orders through our webpage ( https://bit.ly/40AGKO2 ) and chart ( https://bit.ly/4jslYIM ). ❗️The White House has *rescinded the memo* that would have halted all federal grants and loans❗️ Nonprofits throughout the country - and the people they serve - can breathe a sigh of relief now that the White House has backed off its reckless and harmful plan to halt funding for critical programs from homeless/housing assistance, to disaster relief and rebuilding, to rape crisis centers and suicide hotlines. Keep doing your extraordinary, important work throughout the country, and we’ll stay vigilant and ready to act.

It has been a rollercoaster 24 hours for many of you, wondering if critical funding for your nonprofit’s mission would be frozen at 5pm yesterday. With a pause in effect until Monday, we want to take a brief moment to bring you all up-to-speed on what happened, where we are, what’s next, and what actions nonprofits should be taking now, in case the pause is lifted on Monday and the freeze goes into effect: https://bit.ly/4goCjeW For more information on the full scope of the recent executive orders and their impacts on nonprofits, please visit our resource page on the topic: https://lnkd.in/eDUqNcih

❗️We did it (for now)! ❗️ Our lawsuit was successful - the US district court is blocking OMB from moving forward on its reckless plan to halt federal funding. The stay is until Monday, so still much more to do. For now - thank you all for your support, partnership, and leadership. Take a breath, take a rest, and buckle up - we’re not done.

❗️BREAKING: We're filing a Motion for a Temporary Restraining Order in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to block the White House Office of Management and Budget from pausing all federal agency grants and loans. National Council of Nonprofits is filing together with public health and small business leaders, represented in court by Democracy Forward. This reckless action by the administration would be catastrophic for nonprofit organizations and the people and communities they serve. From pausing research on cures for childhood cancer to halting housing and food assistance, shuttering domestic violence and homeless shelters, and closing suicide hotlines, the impact of even a short pause in funding could be devastating and cost lives. This order must be halted immediately before such avoidable harm is done.

We are beyond thankful for the leadership and legacy of tenacity David L. Thompson has embodied during his career and during his time at the National Council of Nonprofits.
🏆 Honoring a Nonprofit Champion! 🏆 At the 2025 Legislative Preview, on January 13, Maryland Nonprofits recognized David Thompson, Vice President of Public Policy for the National Council of Nonprofits, with the Lifetime Service Award. David has been a steadfast advocate for nonprofits, shaping policies that empower our sector. His work on Capitol Hill—especially during the pandemic—ensured nonprofits had access to critical relief through the CARES Act and Paycheck Protection Program. Our President & CEO, Heather Iliff, shared: "David’s dedication, advocacy, and expertise have made a lasting impact on the nonprofit sector. We are tremendously grateful for his service." #NonprofitChampion #LifetimeServiceAward
