Bridging the Data Gap: Machine Learning (ML) has the potential to revolutionize healthcare, but a lack of representative, labeled data often limits its impact in low- and middle-income countries. Through partnering with Lacuna Fund we've created a valuable dataset of annotated blood sample images from Uganda and Ghana. This data can be used to train AI models for object detection, specifically identifying malaria parasites and white blood cells. At the Makerere AI Health Lab, I’ve had the privilege of working with an incredible team dedicated to harnessing the power of AI to transform healthcare in Africa. During the interview, I highlighted how AI advancements can revolutionize medical diagnosis, enhance patient care, and expedite healthcare research across the continent.
