You’ve told us that improving safety and reducing crashes is one of the top priorities. The Regional Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Investment would invest $800 million to create better connectivity and improve safety for nonmotorized transportation users. The plan would also invest $200 million into targeted projects and initiatives that improve safety across the transportation system for all users to provide safe and efficient travel. We’re going back in history! Here’s a photo of Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) at Grand Avenue in 1991 as cars drive through an arc of balloons on the freeway. Construction of the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway was done in several segments. Construction began in the late 1980s with the approval of #Prop300. The freeway was completed in 2002. A proposed extension of #Prop400 would bring to the Maricopa region 331 new freeway/highway miles, 134 new HOV lane miles, 1,000 new or improved arterial lane miles, and it would expand transit. This year, Maricopa County voters will have an opportunity to decide whether to extend or not, the dedicated transportation half-cent sales tax. Learn more facts at azmag.gov/Prop479

As traffic demands grow in the Northwest Valley, MAG in cooperation with ADOT and the cities of Glendale, Phoenix, and Peoria have been working on a project to widen and make improvements to Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) between 75th Avenue and I-17. The project seeks to relieve traffic congestion during the morning and evening peak travel periods. Thanks to #Prop400, project construction is anticipated to begin this fall.
