Maven’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Neel Shah recently joined hosts Dr. Paul Turek and Rob Clyde on the Talk with Turek podcast to dive into one of the most overlooked areas of reproductive health: male fertility. Men account for roughly a third of infertility cases, but nearly all of the focus remains on women. Neel and Dr. Turek discuss why this disparity exists, how addressing male fertility can be more cost-effective than treating female partners, and how fertility can be a key biomarker for men’s overall health. With 30% of Maven’s fertility members identifying as male, we’re committed to providing men with the reproductive healthcare they need—whether through reproductive urologists, endocrinologists, or mental health support. A poor night’s sleep can make even the simplest tasks feel impossible. For women going through menopause—a transition that often lasts for over a decade—sleep loss is one of the most common symptoms. Our new research found that 1 in 3 millennials experiencing menopause symptoms say their symptoms have impacted their ability to perform at work. Of those respondents, nearly 1 in 6 have switched to a less demanding career as a result. And, according to consulting firm Frost & Sullivan, global menopause-related productivity losses amount to more than $150 billion each year. Proper rest is crucial for your team’s well-being and daily functioning. That's why it's essential to have the right support in place. “Instead of trying to needlessly biohack our mortality, we should fix the culture that is saying women shouldn't age in the first place. The problem has always been the structure—the unrealistic expectations thrown at us from every angle, and the lack of structural support that would allow women to thrive at any age in their workplaces, their communities, and in our culture.” —Reshma Saujani, Founder & CEO of Moms First Millennials are entering menopause. And while this is the generation that invented wellness culture and reimagined what workplaces can look like, a new survey from Maven this week shows that millennials still feel failed in midlife. For the latest issue of The Preprint, our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Neel Shah spoke to Reshma Saujani, founder & CEO of Moms First, and Jessica Shepherd, MD, MBA, FACOG, founder of the lifestyle platform Modern Menopause, about how “millenopause” is reframing middle age, healthy aging, and what holistic support really looks like—on our platform and beyond. Millennials are now joining Gen X on one of life’s longest health journeys: menopause. Today, drawing on the responses of more than 1,000 millennials and Gen-Xers with perimenopause and menopause symptoms, Maven released new research on the workplace needs of this generation, which is set to make up 75% of the global workforce by 2025. Our findings: ✔️ 1 in 3 millennials experiencing menopause symptoms don't feel supported at work. ✔️ For millennials who say their symptoms have impacted their work, 1 in 6 have switched to a less demanding career. ✔️ 60% of millennials with perimenopause or menopause symptoms have not discussed them with their doctor. ✔️ 76% of millennials with menopause symptoms are more likely to stay at jobs with menopause benefits. While millennials may be new to menopause, the challenges remain the same across generations. Suffering in silence is still the norm, with menopause symptoms continuing to impact productivity at work. But, with the right resources, employers have an opportunity to better support their workforce—not only through menopause, but throughout midlife. The United States continues to have the highest maternal mortality rate of any high-income nation, disproportionately impacting women of color and women experiencing poverty. With Medicaid financing over 40% of births in the U.S., the time is ripe for government investment in maternal health innovation—and this week marks a pivotal moment in the push for progress. As part of a first-of-its-kind maternal health Medicaid pilot, fifteen state Medicaid agencies with the most promising proposals will receive a full decade of funding to experiment with how maternal care is paid for. This pilot offers a unique opportunity for collaboration between digital health and Medicaid, with great promise to drive better outcomes at scale. In this week’s issue of The Preprint, our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Neel Shah reflects on what got us here, what’s next, and why private innovators should be all-in on Medicaid.
