  • A huge thank you to the DGI - Defence Geospatial Intelligence team for organizing another insightful event last week filled with meaningful discussions on the future of defense and geospatial intelligence.    💡 One key takeaway: As our CEO Dan Smoot shared during his keynote presentation, it’s time to think bigger. The traditional approach—tasking a satellite, collecting an image, using analytics to process it into an insight, and manually integrating it into tactical platforms—has value, but it can't be our only focus. Our customers are working to build integrated, multi-sensor systems, that can process vast datasets in real-time. The commercial industry should too. That was a big topic of discussion with our partners at DGI.    ⚡ Solving that challenge: Harmonizing multi-sensor data at scale is one of the biggest bottlenecks to realizing that vision, which is why Maxar has made that a core focus. We're innovating to build systems that use our unique automated geo-registration and 3D technologies to seamlessly unify a range of sensor data – from full-motion drone video to satellite imagery – in real-time.   🤝 It takes a village: It's going to require partnerships across the ecosystem to build this future from tasking to integrated analytics. We're proud to have partners like Umbra, Satellogic and many others with us on this journey. Together, we'll go far.    #DGI2025

  • Congrats to our very own Melissa Deardorff, Director of Program Operations, for being named to Via Satellite's Celebrating Women in Satellite 2025 list! Melissa has played a key role in architecting Maxar's collection planning systems and technologies over the years, which ensure that we are able to collect and deliver our very high-resolution satellite images to customers on timelines that meet their mission needs. These systems are so efficient that they're often taken for granted. In reality, they represent some of the most sophisticated systems anywhere in the satellite industry. Melissa is also an incredible colleague. As Steve Mattingley wrote in his nomination, Melissa has "mentored many people over the last 24 years and left a lasting impression with many on a variety of approaches to solving complex problems with tight deadlines." She exemplifies the many people whose innovation and expertise strengthens Maxar’s leadership in the satellite space. Thanks for everything you do, Melissa. • Did you know that our Maxar Geospatial Platform (MGP) Pro has been upgraded to offer direct tasking capabilities, allowing subscribers to request new satellite imagery collections? WorldView Legion tasking is now available in that MGP Pro function!  The GIF below shows how to task our satellites via MGP Pro. The whole process—from selecting the area of interest, scheduling the collection, and receiving of the fresh imagery—can be done through MGP Pro.  MGP Pro’s product managers, Peter Kern and Steve Yeager, blogged about how MGP Pro enables access to Maxar’s high-resolution satellite imagery and derived data layers in real-time leveraging either the user interface or an API. The link is in the comments below.  #satelliteimagery #ittakesalegion

For years, commercial geospatial intelligence has been viewed narrowly—as tasking a satellite, collecting an image, processing it into an insight, and then sharing that insight with customers to manually integrate into their tactical platforms. As I told the audience at DGI - Defence Geospatial Intelligence yesterday, it’s time to think bigger. Much bigger. We must find a way to scale and automate insights in a way that aligns with the systems our defense and intelligence customers are trying to build. They’re not focused on just one sensor—they’re building all-sensor, multi-domain tactical platforms to make sense of vast datasets in real-time. Harmonizing all that data is hard. That’s what we’re working to solve here at Maxar Technologies. We’ve mapped the world at 30 cm resolution with sub-5 m accuracy, turning that data into highly accurate 3D representations of much of the globe. When delivered through our software, this foundation geo-registers data from all sources—full-motion drone video, SAR and satellite imagery—in real-time. All your data harmonized for instant analysis and intelligence, rapid mapping, persistent site monitoring at global scale, and more. Now, you’re not just tasking and collecting. You’re unifying all your tactical assets, from space to ground, so that the warfighter or the intelligence analyst has access to the ground truth in real-time. Now, you have a true decision advantage. Thanks to the DGI team for an incredible event so far. I’m looking forward to continued collaboration with customers and partners to evolve and deploy this capability. We will solve this together.
