Fondo Adelante, a CDFI of Mission Economic Development Agency, has significantly impacted our community. By adopting the Racial Equity Lens approach to lending, we have supported over 40 small business owners with more than $1.2 million in loan capital. I am proud of the Coalition’s accomplishments and honored to lead this impactful group. 🛠 Resource alert for anyone involved in funding a CDFI loan program for BIPOC small business owners: The California Small Business Coalition for Racial Justice (“the Coalition”), a collaboration of 20 community development lenders and nonprofits with expertise in working with BIPOC-owned small businesses in low-income communities in California, recently published a lending guide that uses a racial equity approach. The Coalition is hosted by 2024 SBAN Case Study Awardee, Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA), and includes other SBAN members like the CDFI, Inclusive Action for the City. Summary: "How can it help you? This Playbook shares our Racial Equity Lens (REL) underwriting principles and explains how they break from the traditional 5Cs of credit. It also presents Coalition members’ different pilot programs that follow our model of the 4Cs of credit." 📰 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/gZcum9EU

Congratulations to the graduates of our ECE REACH (Early Care and Education, Realizing Employment And Creating Hope) pre-apprenticeship program, a collaborative effort between Felton Institute, Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA), Foothill College, and EDvance College. We ended the ceremony with a beautiful and empowering blessing from Gigi Munoz, M A's family. Launched in January 2023 under Felton’s Workforce Development and Success initiative, ECE REACH equips participants from the Latino community with core competencies for career advancement in Early Childhood Education. "Our goal is also to address the early childhood educator crisis in San Francisco by creating a new pipeline of trained educators and by supporting the existing workforce through education and career advancement opportunities. By offering a Latina focused ECE REACH Tier 1 pre-apprenticeship program, we aim to advance opportunities for the Latino community, ensure children have access to culturally and linguistically responsive educators, and improve outcomes for ALL children. ” - Yohana I. Quiróz, Ed.D. We are grateful to the California Workforce Development Board (CWDB), Workforce Accelerator Fund (WAF), and Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) for their support and the 18-month grant that made the inaugural ECE REACH program possible.

#CradleToCareer work cannot be achieved alone. A look at the StriveTogether 2024 Cradle to Career Networking Convening in Salt Lake City, Utah. StriveTogether works to achieve racial and ethnic equity, and partners with communities, like the Mission District, to ensure that every child has every chance to succeed regardless of race, ethnicity, poverty and circumstance. Over this three day event, MEDA, as a StriveTogether partner and a member of the California Promise Neighborhood Network (CPNN), was proud to have leaders present our Mission Promise Neighborhood's (MPN) Cradle-to-Career strategy. Vice President of Collective Impact Liz Cortez presented and hosted a discussion, "Scalable Model for Co-Developing Early Learning Ecosystems," alongside Lynne Sacks and Tauheedah Jackson, Ed.M. highlighting the transformational work being done by MPN to empower families and support student success, as well as the plans to incorporate The EdRedesign Lab Success Planning framework to tackle chronic absenteeism. Thank you to the entire StriveTogether team for hosting this convening and for the commitment to put four million more children on a path to economic mobility by 2030. TOGETHER is how we build the reality for youth and families to thrive. #MEDA #SanFrancisco #ConveneC2C #SystemChange Amanecer Consulting Group Everyday Impact Consulting

In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, today we are sharing more about our 2024 Case Study Awardee, Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA). MEDA supports Latinx residents and small business owners in the Bay Area, one of the fastest-gentrifying metro areas in the country. Their key anti-displacement strategies aim to safeguard the neighborhood’s rich Latino immigrant heritage and economic strength while addressing the ongoing challenges of small business stability within a gentrifying neighborhood. MEDA’s three commercial anti-displacement strategies focus on: -producing new community-owned commercial spaces -preserving existing commercial spaces, and; -creating land use and real estate tools that support small businesses and community-based organizations. Recent wins include the construction of six new affordable housing buildings, which provide 10 new community-owned affordable ground-floor commercial spaces. SBAN will be tracking the impact of these strategies - stay tuned for more in the coming year!
