What a thrill to finally to get to share this news! One of the first projects I worked on at MENTOR Georgia is scaling outward with the help of a grant from the Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy at Georgia College & State University. The literacy mentoring concept takes best practices from the youth mentoring field alongside early language and literacy development, fusing them together by leveraging community volunteers. (This is the concept behind programs I helped design and launch in Colquitt County, via Brighter Colquitt, and in Clarke County, through Books for Keeps.) Over the coming year, I'll be scaling this concept to four new communities, and I'm looking for the mentoring programs, schools, or community-based organizations that are ready to take on this work with no-cost consulting and initial implementation support from MENTOR Georgia. If you or a program/school you work with is interested in moving the needle on third-grade reading while creating more supportive mentoring relationships for young students, get in touch! Earlier this month, our friends at The Governor's Prevention Partnership hosted the inspiring H.E.R. Summit, a key event in the Black and brown girls mentoring movement. We're thrilled to see this initiative continue to come to life, uniting young BIPOC girls for a day of empowerment and growth ❤️ The Summit offered a variety of engaging workshops and discussions on crucial topics like mental health, nutrition, and decision-making, while attendees also enjoyed relaxing sound baths, crafting friendship bracelets, and making lasting connections. It was a wonderful opportunity for these young women to learn, connect, and have fun. #MentoringAmplifies

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our dear friend and colleague, Karina Nova, who served as the Impact Project Implementation Manager at MENTOR. Karina was a bright light that touched the lives of many within our mentoring community through her work and her incredible spirit. As we grieve and process the hole this leaves in our hearts, we remain grateful to have known and worked alongside her for so many years.
