Cutting-edge research and innovation continues to thrive at MetroHealth. Earlier this month, more than 100 post-doctorate trainees and researchers attended our 26th annual Research Day to showcase their findings. Each year the event brings together a diverse audience from around the region to share the latest discoveries and promote collaborative research with a long-term goal of facilitating cross-institutional collaborations in research, clinical trials and disease interventions. This year’s participants hailed from respected institutions from around the state, including MetroHealth, Case Western Reserve University, Ohio State University and others. Poster and oral presentations created by trainees were judged by a panel of providers, researchers and scientists. Join us as we celebrate the public opening of the Opportunity Center at Vía Sana, a community space designed to connect residents of the Clark-Fulton neighborhood with essential resources for health and well-being. The Open House will be a chance for members of the community to tour the Center and learn about the resources and services available there, including education and training programs, cooking demonstrations and financial literacy workshops. It also is a permanent space for the Tri-C Access Center, which provides affordable or no-cost educational and workforce programming. The Opportunity Center is a hub for the Institute for H.O.P.E.™ , which studies the impact of social drivers of health on the community, develops strategy and processes to screen MetroHealth patients to identify those who are at risk and connects them with community service organizations and other resources. We are proud to announce that we will be serving as the official healthcare provider for Cuyahoga Community College's (Tri-C ©) athletics programs. As the official healthcare partner for Tri-C athletics, MetroHealth’s sports medicine specialists will be on-site at all Tri-C practices and events to assist with training and any injuries. MetroHealth’s experts will also conduct pre-season physicals and concussion testing for Tri-C’s athletes to ensure caregivers have baseline data to accurately diagnose concussions. Ginger Marshall, Administrative Coordinator for the MetroHealth Pride Network and Public Health Programs, was recently honored at the The LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland's 2024 Heritage Day Awards. Awarded every year since 2009, the Heritage Day Awards recognize and honor people who have made significant contributions to the vitality and betterment of Cleveland's LGBTQ+ community. Ginger is the recipient of this year's Health and Wellness Heritage Award thanks in part to her tireless advocacy for LGBTQ+ patients and caregivers at MetroHealth. We recently unveiled our new Psychiatric Emergency Department at the Cleveland Heights Medical Center, providing round-the-clock, on-site psychiatric emergency services to meet the community’s critical need for crisis behavioral healthcare. The Psychiatric Emergency Department is staffed by MetroHealth psychiatrists and behavioral-health trained nurses, nursing assistants and social workers, who can provide crisis care to patients experiencing psychiatric emergencies no matter what time of day or night, every day of the year.
