About us
The MetroHealth System is redefining health care by going beyond medical treatment to improve the foundations of community health and well-being: affordable housing, a cleaner environment, economic opportunity and access to fresh food, convenient transportation, legal help and other services. The system strives to become as good at preventing disease as it is at treating it. Founded in 1837, Cuyahoga County’s safety-net health system operates four hospitals, four emergency departments, more than 20 health centers and 40 additional sites.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, mental health is the leading cause of disability and poor life outcomes in young people. That’s why the MetroHealth School Health Program is taking action by participating in a new campaign designed to empower and teach students how to proactively manage their mental well-being. The Peer-to-Peer Depression Awareness Campaign (P2P) program recently held a kickoff conference for student P2P members from Richmond Heights Middle School, Richmond Heights High School and Saint Martin de Porres High School. The students received education and training on how they can help themselves and their peers manage their mental health, as well as information about the P2P campaign that they will design and implement at their respective schools. P2P was developed at the Eisenberg Family Depression Center at the University of Michigan, with the goal of raising awareness about mental health illnesses, reducing stigma and encouraging help-seeking amongst middle and high school students.

Why wait until Thursday for some trick-or-treat fun? Last week the parking lot of our Buckeye Health Center was transformed into a costume party as we welcomed neighborhood children and their families to our fourth annual Trunk or Treat. 🎃 More than 230 people, including 168 children – and a few pets – in costume, celebrated Halloween early at the event sponsored by the Buckeye Health Center, Pediatric Department and the Institute for H.O.P.E.™ MetroHealth caregivers representing Pediatrics, Sports Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Safety, Child Life and Psychology Training Programs and the Trauma Recovery Center distributed treats from the trunks of festively decorated vehicles. Our thanks to the many community partners that joined us, including but limited to the Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio, Inc., Healthy Eating Active Living, Family Connections of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance. #healthcare #healthequity #CLE

Cutting-edge research and innovation continues to thrive at MetroHealth. Earlier this month, more than 100 post-doctorate trainees and researchers attended our 26th annual Research Day to showcase their findings. Each year the event brings together a diverse audience from around the region to share the latest discoveries and promote collaborative research with a long-term goal of facilitating cross-institutional collaborations in research, clinical trials and disease interventions. This year’s participants hailed from respected institutions from around the state, including MetroHealth, Case Western Reserve University, Ohio State University and others. Poster and oral presentations created by trainees were judged by a panel of providers, researchers and scientists.
