More than 50 members of the Leadership Maryland Class of 2024 made their way to MFRI’s College Park headquarters on Friday for a hands-on tour of our educational and training facilities. Participants donned turnout gear and practiced hose line handling, working to extinguish fires on our flammable liquid pad. Senate and congress members and other invited guests came to MFRI to spend a day in the life of a firefighter. Participants rose 100 feet up in the air riding in the bucket of an aerial tower and donned full turnout gear experiencing the heat of a fire in the burn building. They also extinguished flammable liquid fires, crawled through a confined space maze, and used tools for auto-extrication. MFRI hosts this program annually, with the support of the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI), to demonstrate the dangers associated with firefighting and the necessity of tools and technology in protecting lives, the environment, and property.
