MFRI and solar installer Lumina have partnered to provide comprehensive solar fire safety training to Maryland firefighters. Lumina had a surplus of unusable panels, which are complex and costly to recycle. The two organizations came together to build training structures, installing solar panels on pitched roofs and fabricating home electrical systems. This initiative will enhance first responder knowledge and skills enabling better response to solar-related emergencies. Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) recently developed a Maryland Medical Protocols for EMS app. It is designed for use on smartphones and tablets and serves as a replacement for the pocket protocol book. The app puts the Maryland EMS Protocols in the palm of your hand, allowing you to navigate and view all protocols with no internet connection required, as all protocol information is built into the application upon install. MFRI’s Southern Maryland Regional Training Center is educating future EMTs this summer in an accelerated class. During this session, students practiced taking vital signs and administering CPR in addition to studying their textbooks.
