MFF member Dr. Cleamon Moorer, Jr. is a leader whose entrepreneurial journey is transforming communities and bringing eye care to residents across the Detroit region. From growing up in the city, to leading American Advantage Home Care, Inc. and Eye Care For Detroit, Inc., he is building for both growth and community. Dr. Moorer transformed his experiences with high-growth startups into starting the social impact-focused Eye Care for Detroit to extend much-needed access to high-quality eye care to more people in Southeast Michigan. Dr. Moorer’s own eyesight was restored through an act of kindness in his early years — an act he wants to extend to others. Eye Care For Detroit employs optometrists, caregivers, and other eye care professionals to serve underserved communities in Southeast Michigan. The organization is simultaneously launching two new initiatives designed to give approximately 40,000 homebound Detroit residents the gift of eye care and sight. “Detroit’s population is at greater risk of avoidable and treatable eye disease and blindness due to lack of access to affordable and accessible eye care,” Dr. Moorer says. “We are going to change that.” On March 29, supporters of Eye Care Detroit’s extraordinary efforts will gather for a Visionary Leadership dinner at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, where the lifetime contributions of Otis B. Ferguson, III MD will be honored. Dr. Ferguson is an esteemed Detroit-based ophthalmologist with more than three decades of experience. Though tickets are sold out, sponsorships are still available. On March 31, Eye Care For Detroit will officially open the city’s first ever walk-in clinic at 7800 W. Outer Drive (Suite 150), providing full-service eye care, glasses, and transportation, in a senior-friendly facility. The clinic will serve local residents and patients from across metro Detroit through a transportation assistance program. Dr. Moorer said that excellence can come at a price—sleepless nights, challenges, and doubt—but also with profound impact. This July, he’ll be honored with the #Trailblazer Award at Technology Laboratory and Professional Development Center (t.Lab), BLACK TIE BALL INC, a well-deserved recognition of his determination! Dr. Moorer is a great example of what can happen if you stay focused and keep moving forward. Eye Care for Detroit Clinic Grand Opening WHEN 📆 March 31 at 11:30 a.m. WHERE 📍 7800 W.
