We are deeply saddened by the passing of TechTown Detroit alum Karin Risko after a courageous battle with cancer. Risko joined the TechTown community in 2020 as a Retail Boot Camp participant, driven by her passion for sharing Detroit’s rich history. She envisioned a souvenir shop that would complement her thriving business, City Tour Detroit, and we were honored to support her entrepreneurial journey — one that led to the grand opening of her shop inside the Guardian Building in 2023. A fierce advocate for the city she loved, Risko was more than an entrepreneur — she was a storyteller, historian and author who brought Detroit’s history to life with enthusiasm and purpose. Her dedication to preserving and sharing the city’s narrative left a lasting mark, and she will be greatly missed.

Meaningful investments in Detroit's transporation were at the forefront of conversation at the Transportation Riders United (TRU)'s State of Transit summit last Tuesday. 🤝 The nonprofit advocacy group and TechTown tenant held the event at Wayne State University's Industry Innovation Center. “If we really want to have a transit system that is not only reliable and affordable but is truly convenient and effective, we need to really double the investment in transit at the city level,” Megan Owens, TRU's executive director, said at the summit.
