Earlier this month, the collective #Memphis General Office was honored to assist the Mid-South Food Bank in their mission to combat food insecurity. Together, we assembled over 3,000 pounds of food to help those in need find hope. Rheaply Marketplace Community Spotlight for the month of August. ⭐ Vance Avenue Development Center (VADC) in Memphis, TN was started 33 years ago by Barbara Nesbit. Mission: Provide youth constructive physical and mental stimulating activities in a safe environment. Recognizing that the spirit and body requires nourishment as well as the mind. The center provides children and teens with hot meals, snacks, clothing, and other necessary items.   VAYDC provides teachings in the development of essential basic life skills such as self-esteem, self image, effective decision making, computer skills, job training, and drug and alcohol abuse prevention. This week they're receiving 2,000 lbs of free office furniture from a Rheaply corporate partner in Memphis. While this small donation is for office furniture, we learned VAYDC is also in need of beds, mattresses, computers, office supplies, school uniforms, and food. This morning we spoke to Barbara while she was prepping the meals for today; she proudly shared that the children were having tenderloin, green beans with mashed potatoes, rolls and fruit. In my last week at the Methodist Healthcare Foundation, I am filled with gratitude for having had the privilege to work for one of Memphis’ iconic anchor institutions Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and for a mission as powerful as the Methodist Healthcare Foundation. I am grateful for having such an incredible leader in Zach Pretzer, CFRE who has been so supportive and visionary in our philanthropic work for our patients and families. I am also incredibly grateful for having one of the best teams in the business with whom I could not have been successful in my work here. During my tenure at MLH, we funded the Garden Pavilion project at University Hospital as a place of respite for our patients, patient families, and caregivers and we cut the ribbon on that project yesterday(photos below). We expanded Sickle Cell Care for adult sickle cell patients living in the midsouth region. In 2023, with our partners Mid-South Food Bank we provided 8000 healthy meals for over 400 patients through our Food Pharmacy (FoodRx) Program. Our Communitive Collective for Reading Literacy program enrolled 750 children across six school year community sites and two summer sites for the last 5 years. Approximately, 5,000 minority and underserved women were screened and referred to treatment through our Breast Cancer Navigation/Mobile Mammography Program. I am very proud of this work and will always remain connected to it.    While one good book closes, another exciting chapter opens as I move over to the University of Tennessee Health Science center where I will be working as a fundraiser for the College of Medicine. University of Tennessee-Health Science Center College of Medicine is the largest educator of MDs in the state of Tennessee. It is also the largest trainer of residents and fellows in Tennessee, with over 1300 residents at sites throughout the state. The institution is ranked #18 nationally for graduates practicing in medically underserved areas, and the school is focused on the mission of Healthy Tennesseans and Thriving Communities. Starting July 15th, I will be on campus at Dunlap and Union in the Hyman Building, and I look forward to continuing the work of caring for Memphians through supporting the work of our present and future caregivers. -- Cameron Mann, CFRE
