Leading a network of partners and uniting the community to eliminate hunger by feeding and empowering those we serve.

About us

Founded in 1972 and renamed in 1983, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank is committed to leading a network of partners in eliminating hunger and promoting better nutrition in our region. The Food Bank acquires and distributes healthy food across a 20-county service region including Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia with help from its network of over 300 partner agencies. Last year alone, the Food Bank distributed over 15.1 million pounds (equal to 12.6 million meals) and served over 25,000 people each week. In addition to food provision, the Food Bank works to engage the public in the fight to end hunger and empower people to take responsibility for their health and their lives. • We recently wrapped up our 2nd Annual Freight Food Fight! Ten teams worked hard to feed our neighbors by volunteering and hosting a food and fund drive! We are so grateful for this group; together they helped provide 85,000 meals to our neighbors! The winners of the 2nd Annual Freight Food Fight are LYNC Logistics, LLC in the small group category, Lipsey Logistics Worldwide LLC in the medium group category, and Schnellecke Logistics USA in the large group category! • Many (little) hands make light work! We brought the materials but the Avondale Community Center kids brought the muscle and hard work! Over 20 kids from the center helped us build 4-4'x8' raised beds that will soon be planted with fall vegetables. If they are even half as excited to garden as they were to use a drill, the garden will be a huge success 🙂 A huge THANKS to our partners for making this garden come to life - Chattanooga Public Library - Avondale branch, Floating Tree, Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors Parks & Rec and the HAMILTON COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT Step One Garden Grant.

  • Kevin is one of our many dedicated drivers. Right now, he's on his way to Augusta, Georgia, to deliver water and food to our neighbors affected by Hurricane Helene. But Kevin isn't on a quick roundtrip--he's staying for the next week to assist Golden Harvest Food Bank with their relief efforts, delivering food directly to the communities who need it most. Yesterday, our Operations Team received a truckload of water from Walmart and a truckload of dry goods from one of our vendors. We're in constant communication with our sister food banks across the South, ready to help in whatever way we can. Safe travels, Kevin. We'll see you next week.

  • To our friends, neighbors, and sister food banks in Northeast Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and the Carolinas: We see you, we hear you, we're here for you. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, we've been organizing responses this week to deliver much-needed supplies to communities affected by the disaster. Pictured here are representatives from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who have offered to deliver our stores of peanut butter and diapers to the Asheville area. We're also working diligently to deliver water and dry goods to our Georgia neighbors. If you're able to help, please consider donating to Feeding America's Hurricane Helene response efforts. Hurricane Helene has devastated communities across several states, and the Feeding America network is already on the ground, working alongside communities, state officials and national partners, to provide essential food and resources. We are working closely with food banks across six states as they assess and address damage and impact to their own facilities and work to distribute emergency supplies, including water, disaster boxes, snacks and more to hard-hit areas. With our extensive national network, we prioritize getting aid to the most affected areas first, allowing us to respond quickly and support long-term recovery efforts in communities. Visit FeedingAmerica.org/Helene to donate--every contribution matters! 🧡 Need help? Find a local food bank near you at https://lnkd.in/gvibnHZs #HurricaneHelene #Helene #FeedingAmerica

  • Carol George Hieronymus is serving on the food bank’s Board of Directors for the first time. “As a new board member, I am excited to work with the team to expand the services and support for our neighbors in need,” she said. Carol is a retired financial services executive who held key leadership roles at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. Most recently, she served as the Market Executive for the Tennessee Valley Market based in Chattanooga, TN. She has always had a passion for serving her community and working with various non-profit organizations in the Chattanooga area. Prior to joining the board, she was a regular food bank volunteer and served on the board’s Development Committee. “Having the opportunity to help at the Foxwood Distribution Center and see the faces of hunger in our community and the mothers trying to provide food for their families is so meaningful.” Welcome to the board, Carol! Thank you for lending your time and talents to the food bank family. #Spotlight #FoodBanking #ChattAreaFoodBank
