Our CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, was a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show this week, speaking about the work we're doing across our network in the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Central California Food Bank received a truck from Darden and Penske! This generous donation will enable them to provide an additional 2 million pounds of food each year to neighbors in Central California. Hurricane Helene has devastated communities across several states, and the Feeding America network is already on the ground, working alongside communities, state officials and national partners, to provide essential food and resources. We are working closely with food banks across six states as they assess and address damage and impact to their own facilities and work to distribute emergency supplies, including water, disaster boxes, snacks and more to hard-hit areas. Feeding America applauds the announcement of $1 billion in additional funding for emergency food assistance by the Biden administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This investment comes at a crucial time. Food insecurity in the U.S. rose again in 2023 when 47.4 million people—1 in 7 people, including 1 in 5 children—experienced food insecurity. Families and individuals experiencing hunger are working to secure access to fresh, healthy food to thrive, and this funding will provide critical resources for food banks who are ready to assist them. In support of neighbors, food banks have been operating under heightened need, with increased food purchase and transportation costs. Food programs for seniors and Native and tribal communities have been impacted by supply chain issues. Now, as communities begin to recover from Hurricane Helene, food banks are providing short-term and long-term disaster response and support. Wow! 👀🎉 The totals are in and this year's Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign raised nearly $20 million - the equivalent of 198 million meals for the Feeding America network of food banks and partner agencies. We’ve also reached a huge milestone of providing over 2 billion meals since the campaign started in 2014! Together with Walmart and Sam's Club shoppers, associates, and suppliers, our teams have helped improve food security in the U.S. by ensuring more people have access to the food and resources they say they need to thrive. 🧡💙
