A highly reliable and secure North American bulk power system.
About us
Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) is dedicated to achieving its vision of a highly reliable and secure North American bulk power system. The MRO region spans the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and all or parts of the states of Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin. The region is comprised of more than 225 organizations that are involved in the production and delivery of electricity, including municipal utilities, cooperatives, investor-owned utilities, transmission system operators, federal power marketing agencies, Canadian Crown Corporations, and independent power producers. MRO's primary responsibilities are to: monitor and enforce compliance with mandatory standards by entities who own, operate, or use the interconnected bulk power system; conduct assessments of the grid's ability to meet electricity demand in the region; and analyze regional system events. Additionally, MRO creates an open forum for stakeholder experts in the region to discuss important topics related to addressing risk and improving reliable operations of the power grid.

Thank you to all who participated in the joint workshop between Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) last week, which focused on the “assessment” aspect of Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM). We were fortunate to be joined by two insightful panels of experts: Panel 1: Roy Adams (Consolidated Edison, Inc.), Antiwon Jacobs (Sacramento Municipal Utility District), Laura Schepis (National Electrical Manufacturers Association), and Bob Kolasky (Exiger LLC), explored the validation of vendor information. Panel 2: Howard Gugel (NERC), Landon Roeder (Nashville Electric Service), Darlington Fee (Entergy), and Lance Spross, P.E. (Oncor Electric), shared perspectives on implementation of vendor assessments. Your contributions and engagement made the workshop a success. We appreciate your time, insights, and continued commitment to strengthening SCRM across the electric sector. For those that missed it, the link to the workshop is available below:

NERC is dedicated to identifying and addressing challenges associated with inverter-based #resources (IBR) as the penetration of these resources continues to increase. NERC has released a new supplemental guide—#Reliability Standards Compliance Dates for Generator Owners & #Generator Operators—in support of the continued #IBR Registration Initiative: https://ow.ly/cxTZ50VkhvG This document will be updated in conjunction with NERC’s quarterly work plan update filings with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and can be located in the IBR Registration Initiative Quick Reference Guide under the Initiatives dropdown (https://lnkd.in/gSEnuwKa). Its purpose is to provide awareness to non-Bulk Electric System IBR owners and operators that meet the recently approved registration criteria for Generator Owners and Generator Operators, commonly referred to as Category 2 IBR. Finalized and pending compliance dates for the applicability and enforceability of individual Reliability Standards applicable to Category 2 #registration are included within the supplemental guide.
