Did you know that data centers use as much electricity in some cases as a small city? RF President & CEO Tim Gallagher discussed the impact of data centers on the electric grid during a recent presentation to regional business leaders and state legislators in Pennsylvania. He also recognized their importance to the future of the United States. "Data centers are critical for our financial systems, for our healthcare, for our national security, and for our position among the world's leaders in AI, so we've got to find a way to serve the data centers," he said. #ForwardTogether #datacenters #AI #electricgrid

RF works to maintain the reliability, security and resilience of the electric grid in the Mid-Atlantic region
About us
ReliabilityFirst works to maintain the reliability, security and resilience of the electric grid across 13 states and the District of Columbia, which stretches from the Atlantic Seaboard to Lake Michigan. The electric grid is the backbone of our economy, is critical for our national security and necessary to support our public welfare. In fact, a reliable and secure electric grid is fundamental to our most basic daily routines and needs. Our mission is to ensure that this cornerstone to our national well-being is reliable and secure – not only for today but also for tomorrow. To achieve this mission, we bring together a diverse and broad spectrum of experts from across the nation with various professional, technical, and industry backgrounds. We identify and prioritize risks facing our electric grid; determine sustainable mitigation strategies to address these identified risks; and develop and deploy communication and outreach strategies to drive awareness and further ensure risk resolution. Our team includes electrical engineers, computer engineers and cyber security experts, statisticians and risk experts, attorneys and regulatory experts, professional auditors, systems engineers, organizational design experts, and professional trainers. ReliabilityFirst is one of only six companies across North America that are responsible for this vital work under Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)-approved delegation agreements with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). Specifically, our company is responsible for the reliability and security of the electric grid in the Mid-Atlantic and Great Lakes areas of the United States, which includes all or portions of Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, and the District of Columbia. We are proud to call Cleveland, Ohio our home.

"I'm really confident if we all work together we can continue to enjoy the high level of reliability we've all come not only to enjoy but to expect and now to demand," RF President & CEO Tim Gallagher said during a presentation on electric grid reliability and the energy trilemma facing our country. "And as the CEO of PJM says, we still have time, we just don't have any time to waste and we really have to get this right, there's too much at stake." Through Winter Storm Enzo’s extreme cold temperatures, snow and ice over the past few weeks, the entities in the ReliabilityFirst (RF) footprint delivered reliable electricity to the homes and businesses that call this region home. We’d like to thank our entities for all their hard work during this time and also acknowledge all the work that goes into preparing for this type of weather. RF continues to support reliability and resiliency efforts through implementation of new winterization NERC Reliability Standards, our Cold Weather Winterization Assist Visit program, our annual Winter Reliability Assessment, and other forms of outreach. Thank you for your steadfast approach to maintaining a reliable and secure bulk power system. #ForwardTogether #Reliability #ColdWeatherPreparedness

As much of the U.S. braves bitterly cold winter conditions this week, being able to reliably power and heat our homes becomes especially important. RF President & CEO Tim Gallagher discussed some of the electric grid reliability risks we are facing in a recent interview with Pittsburgh Works Together. Themes like increasing electrification, including the impact of data centers, the changing resource mix, and more are impacting not just the RF region, but are playing out nationwide.
