Across Mission Health, our colleagues help to make our hospitals a place of hope and healing for the communities we serve. Today, we are proud to spotlight our team members at Mission Health’s Transylvania Regional Hospital for their incredible response before, during and after Hurricane #Helene. Transylvania Regional Hospital is a 25-bed, full-service hospital located in Brevard, North Carolina. Throughout the storm, colleagues and clinicians at Transylvania Regional Hospital provided essential patient care and met the storm with courage that resonated throughout the facility. With the help of our broader HCA Healthcare network, Transylvania Regional Hospital colleagues were supplied with essential resources including an in-hospital mini mart equipped with food, snacks, hygiene items and pet food, hot meals, fuel for personal cars and more. To our Transylvania Regional Hospital teams and those across Mission Health, thank you all for showing up with passion and purpose for those we serve. ➡ The HCA Healthcare Hope Fund continues to stand ready to serve our colleagues. Those impacted by Hurricane Helene can visit the Hope Fund’s website to learn more and apply to request financial assistance: www.HCAHopeFund.com. #CareLikeFamily

It was a sweet runion at Mission Hospital this week for a family reunited with their 5-week-old infant after damage from Hurricane #Helene kept them separated for an entire week. 🥰 Bree, Lianne and all the incredible Mission Health colleagues in our NICU truly exemplified HCA Healthcare's desire to care for each patient like they were a member of our very own family. Thanks to Fox Carolina News for helping tell this incredible story! 🔗 https://bit.ly/485LXRc #CareLikeFamily

In the aftermath of Hurricane #Helene, we continue to see the best of humanity shine through. Taylor McCaulley, a nurse manager at Mission Hospital, was one of hundreds of dedicated colleagues that served our patients when the storm reached Western North Carolina. Throughout her 15-year nursing career, Taylor shared that she had never faced a moment like Hurricane Helene. She credits the extraordinary acts of service and teamwork displayed by her fellow colleagues as key to helping patients and community make it through the storm. “You never want to be in a situation where you're seeing all these people hurting physically and emotionally, but then on the other hand, you're seeing all of these staff members that are coming in just to truly save the day,” Taylor shares. “It’s mind-blowing how far HCA Healthcare ’s reach is. Not just for colleagues but the community. The efforts being put into water restoration, power restoration and cell phone service.” To our Mission Health colleagues, like Taylor, thank you for your ongoing commitment to the care and improvement of human life. You inspire us all. #CareLikeFamily #HCANursing

Through 62 years of marriage, Linda and Gary of Swannanoa, North Carolina, have navigated life together. When Linda and Gary took their vows six decades ago, they promised to be by each other’s side, for better and for worse. When Hurricane #Helene made its way to Western North Carolina on September 26, the couple had no idea what their community was about to endure. In the early morning after the storm hit, Gary woke up and could not find his wife. Upon locating Linda, who had fallen, Gary fell, too. They were unable to move until family members were able to come and check on them. Linda and Gary were brought to HCA Healthcare's Mission Hospital to evaluate the extent of their injuries. While they were bruised, they were grateful to be alive. In the aftermath of the storm, Mission Hospital nurses went the extra mile to ensure Linda and Gary were well taken care of, comfortable and, most importantly, together. Nurses brought the couple’s hospital beds next to one another and set up a dining space for them to enjoy meals together. Mission Health colleagues, thank you for your compassion and commitment to supporting our patients in moments like this. #CareLikeFamily

Being a part of the HCA Healthcare network reminds us that we are never alone. To help Mission Health care for patients and support colleagues as we recover from #Helene, HCA Healthcare has provided resources including: • Approximately 400 HCA Healthcare nurses from sister facilities in Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, Texas, Kansas, Utah, and California to provide support and relief for Mission Hospital caregivers. • More than 40 physicians from HCA Healthcare hospitals have been dispatched from other regions to support the community. • Daily necessities to Mission Hospital including water trucks that supply more than 200,000 gallons of water per day, hundreds of thousands of bottles of water, tens of thousands of gallons of fuel, satellite data networks and mobile units including kitchens, bathrooms and handwashing stations. • Mini marts inside all Mission Health hospitals to provide colleagues with free groceries, including food, water, and toiletries. We have also set up colleague laundry, sleep and shower facilities. So far more than 1,000 HCA Healthcare colleagues impacted by Hurricane Helene have received more than $1 million in emergency financial assistance from the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund, an employee-run, employee-supported 501(c)(3) charity that provides financial aid and resources to employees after an extended illness, injury, or disaster. ➡️ If you or a Mission Health colleague you know has been impacted by Hurricane Helene, apply for help and learn more about how the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund can assist you: www.HCAHopeFund.com. #CareLikeFamily #HCACares

Our people inspire us! Their strength lifts others up. Their passion gives others hope. Their love brings others healing. Because when patients are your highest priority...when you believe in something bigger than yourself...it shows. Amid the Hurricane #Helene, our caregivers delivered continuous patient care, offered comfort by holding the hands of those in need, welcomed new lives into the world and supported each other in the face of devastation. Mission Health colleagues and caregivers, thank you for your unwavering dedication as you continue to care for your patients, community and each other in the aftermath of the storm.

Just like a family does, at Mission Health we pull together to care for and support our patients and each other. When Hurricane Helene hit North Carolina, Matt Alligood, nursing director at Mission Hospital was working at the hospital where he would remain for the next several days caring for patients and colleagues as they navigated the aftermath of the storm. During this time, his family was at home unable to leave due to trees that had fallen on their home. Upon hearing about Matt's situation, his HCA Healthcare colleagues sprang into action. To his surprise, when he arrived home a team had been contacted and was already clearing the trees and debris. After the trees were removed, his fellow colleagues shared breakfast with the Alligood family. Matt shared, “Words will never do this act of kindness justice.” The support didn’t stop there. Hundreds of HCA Healthcare nurses from across the country showed up at Mission Hospital to assist our caregivers. Matt expressed, “They showed up with a smile on their face, eager to help, eager to give us just a little bit of reprieve. It’s been amazing.” To Matt and our entire HCA Healthcare family, thank you for answering the call to care for our own as we face and rebuild after Hurricane Helene. We are forever grateful. #CareLikeFamily

We’re continuing to shine a light on the incredible Hurricane #Helene response of our Mission Health family. Dr. Matt Riester, the emergency department medical director at Mission Hospital, has dedicated himself to serving our patients in the ER for the past five years. One week ago, as he was about to head out of town with his wife to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, Hurricane Helene reached North Carolina. When Dr. Riester lost power at his home, he knew he needed to get to the hospital to help. His wife, Alexa, also an ER physician at the hospital, encouraged him to head in. The drive to the ER, typically a quick 30 minutes, turned into a 2-hour journey through downed power lines and fallen trees. That day, our ER faced an extraordinary challenge, caring for over 600 patients, far exceeding our usual volume of 200. Mission Hospital care teams worked together to meet Helene patient care needs with dedication, compassion and strength. Dr. Riester reflects on how the hospital team came together to fulfill our mission to care for and improve human life, “A lot of the emergency room staff, nurses, the doctors, respiratory therapists and techs, everybody, we're all in the same boat. We all have families. We all have houses. Many people had damage to their houses and a lot of people who were here when it initially hit didn’t leave the hospital for days.” Our dedicated caregivers not only provided essential care to those in need, but also supported one another. We are also thankful for our broader HCA Healthcare network who rallied to bring vital resources — meals, water, generators, fuel, mini marts, mobile showers and more — to Mission Health hospitals and colleagues. As Dr. Riester made his way home, he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from emergency response personnel who traveled from across the nation to assist. “I honestly started crying, just knowing everyone from across the country is supporting us,” he shared. We are immensely proud of our Mission Health caregivers, like Dr. Riester, who show up every day — especially in times of crisis – to support the needs of our patients, our community and each other.
