The Wynn Hospital replaces two aging community hospitals, St. Luke’s and St. Elizabeth, and is capable of handling 85-90 percent of all healthcare needs in the community. The Wynn Hospital will strengthen and grow full service cardiac offerings, support the development of a Neurosciences Institute that will include a Neurovascular Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center, will be a world class diagnostic center, including Interventional Radiology and Advanced Endoscopy and provides a Level III Trauma Center plus the ability to serve 90,000 emergency visits per year.

We are excited to welcome Jacob Miguel, DO, general surgeon to the MVHS Surgical Group. Dr. Miguel earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY, also completing the Academic Medicine Scholars Program where he also earned a Master of Science in Neuromusculoskeletal Sciences. He completed his internship in General Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY, and his residency in General Surgery at Larkin Community Hospital in Miami, FL. This week, one of our Family Medicine Attendings, three of our Family Medicine Residents and one Medical Student from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, went to the Neighborhood Center to hold a teddy bear clinic! The kids enjoyed giving teddy bears check ups and learning all about how to make them feel better! Thank you to Dr. LaValley for setting up this amazing experience for the kids!

This week, the Good News Foundation delivered 72 “Jared Boxes,” which contain fun items for pediatric patients who are here in the hospital. The boxes were delivered to ASU and Pediatrics. They also donated handmade crocheted blankets and shawls for our Cancer Center patients. Our thanks to this thoughtful group for giving to others. We appreciate you!

It’s common for patients to feel nervous or anxious before a planned surgery or procedure. For patients waiting to have surgery performed by the MVHS surgical team at Wynn Hospital, the Come and Learn More (CALM) Tour provides a glimpse into what can be expected. Now, surgical patients at Wynn Hospital can get an in-person or virtual tour prior to their scheduled surgery. The MVHS surgical team will take patients through the entire process – from valet parking and check in, to touring one of the hospital’s state-of-the-art operating rooms – and answer any questions the patient may have about the day of their surgery. We are proud of our cardiac team (some of whom are pictured here) at MVHS for working to ensure the Wynn Hospital once again received #ACCAccreditation as a prestigious HeartCARE™ Center: National Distinction of Excellence from the American College of Cardiology. We were the first healthcare organization in NYS to earn this accreditation and one of the first to achieve this honor nationally. MVHS is also the only hospital in the state to achieve ACC accreditation in its Electrophysiology (EP) study. Wynn Hospital, in partnership with Central New York Cardiology, achieved this distinction based on meeting specific criteria, on-site reviews and proven quality standards. It is only awarded to hospitals that demonstrate excellence in cardiovascular care through comprehensive process improvement, disease and procedure-specific accreditation, professional excellence and community engagement.
