As we reflect on a wonderful #THRIVE experience in Austin last week, we first want to thank PSMJ Resources, Inc. for the great conference. Each year, #THRIVE brings together leaders from the AEC industry for connection and collaboration on relevant business and management strategies that support enduring success. This year was no different. A full two days of content on Artificial Intelligence (AI), financial management and fiscal responsibility, and strategic planning. Keynote presentations by Former Dallas Fed Chairman and current Goldman Sach Vice Chair Robert Steven Kaplan ; KP Reddy, Founder and CEO of Shadow Ventures and recovering Civil Engineer; Don Rheem, CEO of CultureID; and Melissa Furman, Founder of Career Potential, provided insightful commentary for us to leverage the firm’s biggest opportunities for the future. We even had the opportunity to attend two pre-conference workshops ahead of the conference, AEC AI Foundations Workshop and AEC MarketPRO. #AECAIFoundationsWorkshop, led by Frank Lazaro, offered us a broad understanding of how AI is impacting the AEC Industry. We also used a portion of the time together for hands-on training and demonstrations on prompt engineering through a myriad of scenarios focused on text generation…even a little fun with image generation. #AECMarketPRO was an intensive deep dive into AEC business development strategies. The day was packed with valuable content that included AI integration with marketing, developing seller/doers, and strategic leadership. One of the most impactful moments each year with THRIVE is the opportunity to connect with business leaders across the country and across market sectors to discuss the key issues affecting our industry and our businesses. Year over year, we connect with individuals like Kurt Sandman and Justin Schoenberg with Sandman Structural Engineers, Brad Beck and Teresa Beck with Beck Engineering, Inc., and many others who have been missed! We look forward to another #THRIVE in Chicago next year!

Our team had a great time in Asheville at the ASPIRE conference, where innovation, community, and design came together in meaningful ways. The conference offered engaging sessions on the latest in design technology and insightful discussions on AI’s role in our industry’s future. Erin Brockovich’s keynote on civic engagement and environmental responsibility was a powerful reminder of the impact we can make beyond our work. Being embedded in the city added to the experience, allowing us to connect with colleagues not just within the conference but throughout Asheville’s vibrant streets. We’re grateful for the chance to learn, connect, and be part of this community, and we look forward to attending again next year! #ASPIRE2024 #ArchitectureCommunity #InnovationInDesign #ArchitectsUnite #ASPIRE2024 #ArchitectureCommunity #DesignInnovation

Friday the 13th didn't scare the MBA team away from our quarterly street cleanup! Despite the spooky date, the weather held out until the very end, and we successfully collected 6 bags of trash! Join us in turning the streets from fright to bright by adopting a city street and helping keep our community clean! #community #environmentalactivism #lowertuck

On 9/11, a day of remembrance for our entire country, Western Piedmont Community College held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Emergency Services Training Center (ESTC) in Morganton, NC. The ceremony not only remembered the emergency services personnel lost in New York, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania 23 years ago but also highlighted what this training facility will provide emergency services personnel in Burke County. The project will provide hands on training for a multitude of emergency services, including fire, rescue, and emergency management. Morris-Berg Architects and our design team of Merrick, Stewart, and Optima Engineering, along with the Construction Manager Vannoy Construction, are excited to get this project underway! #groundbreaking #emergencyservices #WPCC

We're heading to Asheville, NC, and looking forward to reconnecting with old friends and meeting new colleagues from Georgia, Kentucky, and the Carolinas. AIA Aspire, the state conference for architects, is all about bringing together ideas and talent to the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you're attending, let's make sure we don't miss the chance to catch up!

Good luck to all of those students in the middle of their first month of school at Central Piedmont Community College! Especially those who will start their online architectural seminar class taught by our own adjunct professor Chris Muryn! This intro to Urban Design history seminar looks to give the students an understanding of the complete urban realm. It will cover the last 150 years of urbanity as we look at and investigate what it means for a building to be in a landscape!

A special shoutout to those enrolled in UNC Charlotte School of Architecture's MUDD Modern City: Theories & Forms taught by our very own Chris Muryn who's putting on his adjunct faculty hat! This course dives deep into the history of Urban Design, offering a comprehensive overview of two centuries of urban evolution—from the early 19th century to the dawn of the 21st century. Students will explore various urbanism concepts, their modern-day counterparts, and their profound influence on the practice of urban design and development. Expect to investigate cities, built environments, and large-scale urban projects shaped by groundbreaking ideas and theories of urbanism. Wishing everyone a fantastic semester ahead!
