Heads up! Starting Saturday, June 1, Maryland drivers will face doubled fines for speeding in work zones, increasing to $80. This is a result of the Maryland Road Worker Protection Act of 2024. This crucial piece of legislation was largely driven by MTBMA's active involvement in the Governor's Work Zone Safety Work Group. In January 2025, we will see a tiered system for higher speeding fines, ranging from $60 to $1,000, with doubled fines when workers are present. The act also permits automated speed cameras to enforce limits and protect workers, with funds prioritized for work zone safety equipment. MTBMA has been a champion of work zone safety, and we are optimistic that the increased fines & flexibility around citations will result in safer roads. Thank you to Gov. Wes Moore and Lt. Gov Aruna Miller for prioritizing work zone safety, and a massive thank you to our MTBMA members who have been committed to this important cause. https://lnkd.in/e9t3ADDQ
