The 2024 Nation’s Report Card (#NAEP) will be released in early 2025, instead of fall 2024, to allow time for the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) to study if there are any impacts from changing assessment devices. States and TUDA districts were informed of these changes in April 2023. An important new study reveals that ChatGPT-4.0 slightly outperforms ChatGPT-4 and that both models generally surpass U.S. students’ performance across all grades, subjects, and types of #NAEP questions. However, both models struggle more with geometry and measurement compared to algebra and face challenges with high-difficulty math problems. These findings underscore both the potential and limitations of #AI in education, especially in developing spatial reasoning and solving complex math problems, pointing to areas where further refinement is needed.

We’re excited for the big changes coming to the 2024 Nation’s Report Card on how we report students’ socioeconomic status. National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) has been leading on a new index that will help paint a better understanding of the student learning experience.
Measuring and reporting students' socioeconomic status in relation to their achievement helps us better inform conversations around American education.
