On October 11th, a meeting was held at the headquarters of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization (NAMYO) with representatives from UNICEF Azerbaijan local office. The discussions focused on potential collaborations between #UNICEF Azerbaijan and #NAMYO to enhance the involvement of #youth and #children and to amplify their voices in #climate-related initiatives.

After three days of active discussions and interactive sessions at the COP29 Simulation Conference, the participating youth adopted a final statement. This statement addresses key climate issues, including adaptation and resilience, mitigation strategies, climate finance, and recommendations for developing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) while also considering the outcomes of the Global Stocktake. 📑 The final day of the Simulation Conference began with opening remarks from Professor Mohamed Loutfi, President and Vice Chancellor of the British University in Egypt. His speech was followed by addresses from Dr. Fariz Ismailzade, Vice Rector of ADA University in Azerbaijan, and Mr. Alessandro Fracassetti, Resident Representative of UNDP Egypt. Participants then had the opportunity to hear keynote speeches from H.E. Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment of the Arab World Egypt, and H.E. Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, following the screening of the COP Simulation Journey video. 🎥 Before the closing remarks and recognitions delivered by Dr. Sarah Elkhishin, Director of Strategy and Development and University Advisor on SDGs at the The British University in Egypt, participants of the Simulation Conference had the opportunity to present the outcomes of the past three days of discussions and activities. 💭 It is important to highlight that the Final Declaration, adopted after three days of intensive discussions among young participants, will be submitted to the COP29 Azerbaijan Presidency, ensuring that the voices of youth are heard. On October 7, 2024, the opening ceremony of the #COP29 Simulation Conference took place at the British University in Egypt, located in Cairo, the capital of #Egypt.🌍 During the ceremony, Dr. Sarah El-Khishin, Director of Strategy Development and University Advisor on #SDGs at The British University in Egypt British University in Egypt, addressed the attendees. Professor Catherine Harper, Acting Provost and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) at The British University in Egypt, also delivered remarks. In the opening remarks, Mr. Gadir Khalilov, Executive Director of the #Youth Fund, Azerbaijan Students and Alumni Platform (ASAP), Azerbaijan, shared his insights. Dr. Abeer Shakweer, Assistant Resident Representative for Inclusive Growth and Innovation at UNDP Egypt, followed with her speech. Ms. Nazrin Gasimova, Manager on work with National Chapters and President of the COP29 Azerbaijan Simulation, welcomed the participants. The conference is hosting 150 young participants from 40 countries and 87 universities and will run until October 9. It is also noteworthy that representatives from #NAMYO’s secretariat are participating in the simulation conference.✨

On September 20th, a side event titled “Conversation with N.o.W”, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan and co-organized by the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization as part of the Summit of the Future was held. The event was moderated by Ms. Naila Habibzade, a Secretariat member of NAMYO. During the session, Ms. Leyla Hasanova, Chairperson of NAMYO and Youth Climate Champion for COP29 Azerbaijan, delivered keynote address. The event was followed by panel discussion by the lead discussants and speakers on youth and climate action.
