About us
The National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) was organized to create a network among minorities who are employed by insurance companies or self-employed in the insurance industry. Pooling this wealth of talent contributes to the growth of the association and its members through sharing of professional experience, knowledge, and information. NAAIA founded its New York Chapter on July 14, 2004, with a mission of creating a network of insurance professionals within the Tri-State area to foster career and business opportunities. As a trade association, the Chapter’s membership includes executives, agents, brokers, attorneys, underwriters, and other professionals in insurance-related fields who either work or live in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut. Today, our focus is on promoting the insurance industry through a variety of educational, civic, and social activities that support career advancement and business development within the communities comprising the geographical area we serve.

This week for Men In Insurance, NAAIA New York is shining a light on Black Insurance Professionals that are "On the Come Up" in the New York Tri-State Area. NAAIA New York celebrates Steven Flowers for his accomplishments in the industry. Steven has shown true dedication in making an impact within his respective organization and local community. NAAIA New York thanks and celebrates Steven for all of his hard work. Please enjoy Steven's biography below. Steven Flowers Associate Broker- Construction & Infrastructure Aon Walking around the floors of Aon you may see a young man in nice dress clothes, sneakers, and an afro, that’s Steven Flowers, an associate broker at Aon for the Construction and Infrastructure group. Steven Flowers is a young professional born and raised in Southeast Queens, NY to two Jamaican parents. Studious and active throughout his academic career, a college internship at Aon introduced Steven to the field of risk management. Most of Steven’s career has consisted of civil and building risks for key clients in the NY construction business. After completing his degree at Wheaton College (MA) as a Posse Scholar, Steven entered the insurance industry as an Account Specialist in Construction and Infrastructure group at Aon. Utilizing a unique skillset from his Theatre major and time studying abroad in London, Steven was quick to adjust to the nuance and space of the risk management. After getting his broker’s license, he delved deeper into P&C handling projects and renewals for key clients. Committed to leaving a lasting impression wherever he calls home, Steven Flowers has been a part of the Intern program for GNY to give back for his own entry path into the business. Steven hosts both virtual and in-person events for Aon interns in Philly, NY, NJ and Boston to give an introduction that promotes opportunity for everyone. At the same time, he began his work with the employee resource group Black Professional Network (BPN) where he became a regional co-leader. It has been almost four years, and in the role, he became a helping hand in strengthening the BPN's relation with NAAIA New York, The Water Street Club and various carrier partners ERGs as well fostering community and activities with members through the book club, innovative speaker series and promoting ethical black-owned vendor usage for events. As he continues his career, he strides that one day “everyone eats". #NAAIANY #MenInInsurance #PropertyCasualty
