Breathing Science is Life
About us
For more than 125 years, National Jewish Health has been at the forefront of research and medicine. We integrate the latest scientific discoveries with coordinated care for pulmonary, cardiac, immune and related conditions. National Jewish Health physicians and researchers are at the forefront of a new era in health care that embraces a personalized, preventive approach to medicine. We understand that each person is unique, and their variations in diet, environment, personal habits and DNA all influence their individual health. That is why two different people are exposed to certain conditions and only one gets sick and why certain treatments may work for one person and not for another. With a focus on personalized medicine, our researchers are looking at environment-gene interaction and making strides in predicting, preventing, treating and tracking many diseases. This proactive approach to medicine means that if you have a disease, or the probability of getting a disease, it may be detected sooner so that you may live longer, healthier and with a better quality of life. Our research is truly transforming the lives of millions. By using an individual's DNA to predict and prevent disease, to guide the right choice of therapy to limit side effects and bring higher success rates for treatments and to be able to track the effects of these therapies, National Jewish Health is working to improve health care for the future.

Saving the Hearts of Women Through Prevention: Optimal Practices to Improve Outcomes in Cardiovascular Events In the United States, heart disease is the leading cause of death, and women have significantly higher 30-day mortality rates after a new CVD event compared with men. In addition to traditional cardiovascular (CV) risk factors, women often possess several nontraditional risk factors, related to pregnancy, hormonal influences, or comorbid disorders. Furthermore, women are less likely to receive guideline-recommended diagnostic testing and therapies. In this interactive, case-based program, expert faculty address CVD risk factors, diagnostic tools, and guidelines related to screening women for CV risk. They also examine challenges in the measurement of lipoprotein a [Lp(a)], as well as clinical evidence for current and emerging therapies to manage women with elevated Lp(a). Evidence-based strategies on using non-statin therapies to reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in women will also be reviewed. This program includes the unique, audience-engaging, educational gaming platform, Wheel of Knowledge Challenge. https://brnw.ch/21wNhTP #Cardiology #CME #WomensHealth #MedicalEducation #MedEd

Join us at the annual CHEST conference for an important CME Lunch Symposium discussing Clinical Strategies for Severe Asthma & Chronic Inflammatory Airway Diseases. Recent studies have uncovered the staggering prevalence of asthma in patients suffering from upper airway disorders. The inflammation in upper airways can intensify inflammatory responses in the lower airways, causing a vicious cycle of symptoms and exacerbations. This educational program will bring together expert pulmonologists and allergists to discuss the complex and interconnected relationship between severe asthma and upper airway disease, including inflammatory pathways and biomarkers in chronic respiratory disease, and current and emerging therapies for managing patients with severe asthma and comorbid upper airway disease. Case scenarios will illustrate strategies for personalizing treatment plans, and attendees will have the opportunity to vote on which cases they would like experts to discuss. RSVP here: https://brnw.ch/21wN6N0 This symposium is not supported, endorsed, or accredited by the American College of Chest Physicians, unless otherwise noted. #Asthma #Pulmonology #Airway #CME #CHEST2024 #MedEd #MedicalConference

Our Online NTM Lecture Series for Providers is available for CME / CNE credit through September 30, 2024. Visit the program website to purchase the course, view videos at your convenience and claim CME credit. Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are ubiquitous in our environment. The clinical manifestations include but are not limited to chronic pulmonary infection, lymphadenitis, disseminated disease or skin and soft tissue infection. As we watch the incidence of tuberculosis drop to historically low numbers, the rates of infection due to NTM are increasing. These infections are under recognized and cause significant morbidity and mortality. Treatment options are arduous but with the right tools, patients will improve clinically. https://brnw.ch/21wMuEF #NTM #LungDisease #Pulmonology #InfectiousDisease #PublicHealth #CME #CNE #Nursing
