As Hurricane Helene recovery continues, NLC legislative director Yucel Ors told The Hill that longer recovery times mean higher costs and impact on essential services. Without supplemental FEMA funding, local governments will face delays in rebuilding critical infrastructure. We urge Congress to act now to fully fund FEMA.

"In the next decade, we’ll continue to think about the way in which we connect and deliver services to our members. We’re going to continue to strengthen our home rule principles — that if you want something done, you give it to a local leader, and they’ll get it done." Check out Governing's new interview with NLC CEO and Executive Director Clarence Anthony, where he reflects on the future of NLC, our Centennial Roadshow, and more! #NLC100

Don't miss this great article from CNN on how cities have worked hard and effectively to reduce crime. In Baltimore, for instance, a violence reduction strategy helped drive the city's record 21% annual decline in homicides. The formation of a community group in Detroit resulted in a 72% drop in homicides and non-fatal shootings in its zone. https://lnkd.in/gQgsjJpQ
