Despite its reputation as one of the most beautiful fall foliage destinations, polluting industrial facilities across the region continue to threaten Mammoth Cave’s biodiversity, vistas and visitors’ health (it's currently the MOST haze-polluted national park). A lawsuit would dismantle revitalized NEPA rules that highlight environmental justice and climate change, threatening national parks, public lands and communities. “This senseless lawsuit threatens everything that NPCA and park advocates across the country have fought so hard to protect,” -NPCA's Kristen Brengel, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs #NationalParks #ParkAdvocate #ProtectOurParks

The Park Service dropped a long-awaited Alaska sport hunting rule, but the details are disappointing when it comes to protecting bear cubs and wolf pups from hunting. The new rule prohibits bear baiting on national parklands in Alaska to protect visitor safety — that's the good news — but continues to allow multiple troubling sport hunting practices including: - Killing black bear cubs, and sows with cubs, using artificial light at den sites - Killing wolves and coyotes (including pups) during the denning season From Jim Adams, NPCA's Alaska Senior Regional Director: “In its rule, the Park Service recognizes that numerous sport hunting practices conflict with the agency’s mission - yet allows them to continue. The agency has flat out decided not to do its job of protecting parks and park wildlife. NPCA, with our members and supporters, has been at this fight for more than a decade and will continue to speak up for our parklands and the wildlife that inhabit them.” More on the new rule and how we got here in our press release. #Alaska #Wildlife #Conservation #NationalParks #ProtectOurParks

Last week we joined our partners in New York to celebrate the official opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center. NPCA's CEO and President Theresa Pierno reflected on the gravity of this historic occasion: "The power of place can be felt walking through the Greenwich Village streets where people stood up and spoke out, paving the way for equality for all. "When you explore the new visitor center, you’re learning from and honoring those courageous people. Stonewall will continue to inspire for generations and we’re proud to work to help ensure our national parks include diverse, inclusive stories that welcome and represent the people that shaped our nation.” #Stonewall #LGBTHistory #PrideMonth #NationalParks #ProtectOurParks #FullAmericanStory

Thanks to the Great American Outdoors Act, your next visit to Hot Springs National Park can include a trip to two historic bathhouse buildings. One of the main attractions for the park's 2.6 million annual visitors is Bathhouse Row, yet there's a 23,000 square foot bathhouse that's been shuttered and unused for nearly 50 years. A multi-million dollar investment from the Great American Outdoors Act will help improve visitor experiences while giving the park an economically viable leasing opportunity for these historic structures. Hundreds of projects are underway to improve national parks for the staff who care for them and the visitors who enjoy them. One thing is clear: our parks need more help. Join NPCA in urging Congress to keep investing in our national parks and extend GAOA by at least five more years! https://lnkd.in/ej6auypb #GreatAmericanOutdoorsAct #ProtectOurParks #ParkFunding #HotSpringsNationalPark

It's officially official! The Biden administration has at last rejected permits for the proposed Ambler mining road, defeating the 211-mile road once and for all. This is an Alaska-size win for Gates of the Arctic National Park & Preserve, caribou & Alaska Native communities. This victory comes after years of advocacy led by Alaska Native communities and supported by park lovers from across the nation. It's time to make Joshua Tree National Park whole again: join NPCA in urging the Biden administration to fully protect the California desert and establish Chuckwalla National Monument. For decades, NPCA has worked to protect the Greater Joshua Tree landscape. Joshua Tree National Park is a world-renowned region, characterized by wide-open vistas marked by iconic Joshua trees, yucca, rare rock formations and outdoor recreation. The proposed Joshua Tree National Park expansion would restore the 17,000 acres that were removed from its landscape in the 1940s, while the Chuckwalla National Monument would preserve over 600,000 acres between Joshua Tree National Park and the Colorado River. Use your voice to speak up for the California desert with our action alert. #JoshuaTree #CaliforniaDesert #Chuckwalla #AntiquitesAct #ProtectOurParks
