The Supreme Court has made a decision in the case of Grants Pass v. Johnson, which now makes it against the law to sleep in public places like parks or sidewalks. This means that homeless young people, as well as others without a home, could get in trouble with the police just for trying to find a place to sleep. There are about 4.2 million young people in the U.S. who don't have a stable place to live. Decisions like this show why Safe Place is so important. Safe Place helps young people in crisis by giving them a safe place to go and someone to help. If you are a young person in need of shelter or support, you can find the nearest Safe Place by texting "Safe" to 44357 (4HELP). You can also chat with a mental health professional. National Safe Place Network believes every young person should have access to safe, stable, and affordable housing in the community they choose. We will keep pushing for money and support to make sure there's enough housing and help available in every community across the country. #WeAreSafePlace #JohnsonVGrantsPass

About us
Safe Place is a national youth outreach and prevention program for youth in need of immediate help and safety. More than 20,000 community and business locations nationwide display the Safe Place sign, making help readily available. Designated Safe Place locations include libraries, fire stations, YMCAs, public buses, grocery stores, restaurants and social service facilities. Safe Place provides training and technical support for 130 licensed Safe Place agencies in 39 states and the District of Columbia. In 2009, NSP launched TXT 4 HELP, a 24-hour text-for-support service for youth in crisis. Teens can text the word "SAFE" and their current address to 69866 and receive a text message with the name and address of the closest Safe Place location, as well as the number of the local youth shelter agency. Users also have the option to text interactively with a mental health professional for more help. Safe Place is a program of National Safe Place Network.
