🌊Making Waves: Stories of service in different eras The Veteran Integration (VI) Program, part of NSWCDD's Employee Engagement Program, hosted an inspiring event featuring women who shared their unique experiences and challenges of being among the first women to serve in the Navy. Kicking off the event, Commanding Officer Capt. Joe Oravec expressed his gratitude to these trailblazers. “I give you all the credit in the world for being the pioneering people who tried to do something first, because it’s not easy to be first” said Oravec. Among the speakers were Roberta Lockard, who served as a radioman in the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service, better known as WAVES, between 1957 and 1959 and Jeanie Coakley, who served for five years at the Naval Branch Dental Clinic at Dahlgren in 1988. #USNavy #Veterans #Integration #MakingWaves #Pioneers #UMWDahlgen
