On Thursday, the Naval War College Foundation (NWCF) held an unclassified war game, “A Test of Wills: Wargaming a Chinese Blockade of Taiwan.” The event brought together NWCF trustees, corporate partners, distinguished guests, and U.S. Naval War College (USNWC) staff. Since shortly after its inception in 1887, the USNWC has made wargaming a fundamental part of its academic offerings, and it conducts more than a dozen wargaming events each year. Hosting the unclassified war game provided our guests with a unique insight into the complexities of war gaming simulations and their crucial role in strategic decision-making. Supporting these initiatives is essential for developing tomorrow's strategic leaders and equipping them to tackle the complexities of the future. The NWCF extends a special thank you to Matthew Cancian, Associate Professor of Wargaming, USNWC, Michael O'Hara, Ph.D., CAPT, USN, Dean (Interim), Center for Naval Warfare Studies, USNWC, Jonathan Caverley, Ph.D., Professor, Strategic and Operational Research Department, USNWC, and Peter Pellegrino, Wargaming Specialist, USNWC, for facilitating a successful war game. Thank you to Eric Heginbotham, Principal Research Scientist at MIT, and Ben Harris, Ph.D. candidate in Security Studies and International Relations at MIT, for joining us.
