Our first day started with a great opening session! Kicked off with a keynote on the value of NCASI, Inc. given by the agile John Piotrowski, Vice President of Environmental Operations, Packaging Corporation of America, and Vice Chair, NCASI Board of Governors. We then had Paul R. Noe, American Forest & Paper Association, give a great example of how NCASI knowledge can be leveraged for Members, citing the Loper Bright Enterprises case. NCASI’s own Vipin Varma and Tammerah Garren wrapped up our opening session, sharing how NCASI strives to add value for our Members. With over 810 years of collective experience at NCASI, our staff is proud to continue to provide value and serve our Members.    The rest of the day was filled with fantastic sessions on regulatory updates for water quality, challenges and opportunities for enhancing GHG reporting, wastewater treatment management, the contribution of forest management for climate solutions, mill case studies, and forestry management effects on aquatic riparian ecosystems. Round those out with a New to Role lunch, a reception, and endless great conversations - it was a packed and productive day!

We are proud to share that NCASI, Inc.'s Tanvir Khan, Ph.D. was recently invited to his alma mater, Michigan Technological University, as a guest speaker for the Michigan Tech Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering’s (CEGE) Environmental Engineering Graduate Seminar. During his talk, titled "From Homes to Horizon: Advancing Air Quality Measurement with Improved Data and Next-Generation Sensors", Dr. Khan delved into the complexities of air quality monitoring. He shared insights on the evolution of methodologies for measuring fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and discussed the challenges posed by the recent revision of the U.S. National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for PM2.5. He also highlighted the growing role of NextGen air sensor technology, examining the critical need to ensure data quality when utilizing these technologies. Pollinator research is a difficult task but Megan Sampognaro, a graduate student at Oregon State University, is working with NCASI, Inc. and Member Companies to survey in fuel reduction stands in Northern California. Her research will aid our understanding of bee distributions in dry Cascade forests, including elusive western bumblebees. #pollinators #research #forestry #bees
