Last week, two NCHEMS teams toured each campus of the Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH). The CCSNH staff and each campus welcomed NCHEMS as we met with different focus groups to learn what makes each campus unique. These visits provided valuable feedback and insight as we work with the system to ensure that community college services continue to meet the needs of New Hampshire, its students, and all of its diverse regions. Thanks for sharing with our team and letting us see so much of your beautiful state: Great Bay Community College, Lakes Region Community College, Manchester Community College, Nashua Community College, NHTI - Concord's Community College, River Valley Community College, and White Mountains Community College. #NCHEMSOnTheRoad #HigherEd #communitycolleges

Last week, the NCHEMS team volunteered at Community Food Share and helped sort through 1500 pounds of potatoes! We loved being able to give back to the Boulder community and were so grateful to have the opportunity to enjoy time outside of the office together. #NCHEMSSuccesses #NCHEMSStaffRetreat

This week our full team came together for our NCHEMS staff retreat hosted at the CSU Spur. This retreat created space to collaborate and strategize on big-picture initiatives while discussing ways to continue improving our work. Thanks, CSU Spur for hosting our retreat — we loved touring the different buildings, too! #NCHEMSSuccesses #NCHEMSStaffRetreat #highered

Where do campus leaders start when they want to make changes to campus culture to better support students? Transforming culture at an institution can be a daunting task and there isn’t a quick fix that will reduce equity gaps for students. The Foundation for Student Success, housed at NCHEMS, developed a set of self-assessment tools with funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF). These tools focus on four levers identified through over two years of research and with the assistance of two advisory groups – one with community college presidents and one with university presidents. These self-assessment tools are Open Education Resources and aim to guide institution leaders in this important work. Learn more about this project and explore these self-assessment tools here: https://lnkd.in/gTQhHtcu. #culturetransformation #highereducation #STEM #equity #studentsuccess

NCHEMS sure has been busy this fall! President Brian Prescott gave a presentation during the University System of New Hampshire's board retreat last week. His presentation helped trustees better understand potential future conditions and shared options for addressing challenges related to demographic decline, heightened competition and innovations in the field needed to develop solutions. We love seeing our staff share their expertise and support ways to improve #highered. Thanks for welcoming NCHEMS to this board retreat!

Financial aid is critical for helping students realize their postsecondary and career dreams, and states are playing an ever more important role in providing some of that aid. A new set of resources from Education Strategy Group — Aiding Attainment: Leveraging State Financial Aid for Access and Success — details how states can lead the way in designing and implementing financial aid programs that expand postsecondary access and success. NCHEMS Vice President Sarah Pingel, Ed.D. Pingel served in the Advisory Group for Education Strategy Group’s latest resources. Her expertise in this area helped inform their research and aided these reports. Check out the toolkit now: https://lnkd.in/eHJp9W4c

Yesterday, NCHEMS Vice President Sarah Pingel, Ed.D. gave testimony at the 2024 Legislative Council meeting to the Study Committee on the Future of the University of Wisconsin System. Pingel stated, “There is no objective measure of what well-organized systems are within the field of higher education broadly… NCHEMS believes the form of the structure matters much less than the alignment of the policies behind it.” The Study Committee is tackling challenges the University of Wisconsin system faces related to enrollment declines and fiscal constraints at the institution and system level. During this testimony, Pingel shared considerations around higher education governances by detailing approaches other states have taken and recommendations Wisconsin can take as they embark on this important work. “NCHEMS believes that well-functioning systems of higher ed produce the best results for students and for states.” Check out the full testimony here: https://lnkd.in/gVFQ9QV3.
