Today, the Jaguars had the honor of meeting Elena, who is being treated for leukemia at Nemours. Her mom, Natalie, shared their inspiring story – she’s been cancer free for 17 years after being treated for leukemia at Nemours as a child! Chronic exposure to racism not only impacts mental health but also fuels systemic inequities in care. Wizdom Powell,PhD, MPH, CMHC, Tech Advisor for The Evidencewatch Collective and former Chief Purpose Officer of Headspace, sheds light on how discrimination correlates with higher rates of depression, anxiety and PTSD – especially for Black men who feel pressure to “soldier on.” Breaking the stigma starts with gender-sensitive care and policies that make mental health support accessible and equitable.
