This morning, our Healthcare & Life Sciences Committee heard from the team that designed and built Columbia University Irving Medical Center's Vagelos Innovation Laboratories, a first of its kind, fully electric research facility. Moderated by committee co-chair Raffaela Dunne, P.E. of VHB, the panel consisted of James Bickerstaff of LF Driscoll Healthcare, Patrick Burke of CUIMC, Carlos Cerezo Davila of KPF, and Jeffrey Rios, PE of WSP, with remarks from Georgina Lalli, AIA NOMA of KPF. This case study was an informative opportunity for NYBC members to learn about state of the art construction and planning methods to increase sustainability and comply with requirements set forth by Local Law 97. We'd also like to extend a special thank you to Batska Consulting for sponsoring today's meeting!

That's a wrap on our 2025 Albany Delegation Trip -- and what a visit we had! Our reception Monday evening brought out dozens of elected leaders from across the state, and we had the pleasure and privilege to hear from Gov. Hochul on her vision for the future. We then were back at the Capitol the next day to continue our conversations where we delivered our message of how government can support our industry. That included a housing roundtable with Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas, State Senator Brian Kavanagh & Assembly Member Alex Bores, as well as a meeting with the Governor's team and the Speaker of the Assembly Carl Heastie. We thank everyone who interacted with us in the fast-moving, but jam-packed 48 hours we spent in Albany, and look forward to our next visit next week to testify before the Joint Hearing on Transportation.

Our statement on today's U.S. Senate vote: "We welcome the confirmation of Transportation Secretary Duffy, and not only look forward to working with him to build a better America, but to pledge our assistance in being a resource for plotting a path forward. At the top of our list is reauthorizing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Our nation’s crumbling infrastructure demands a renewed commitment from lawmakers of all political stripes to come together and act now to advance a new, robust plan that can reshape the nation’s physical landscape to bolsters economic resilience and confronts the demands of a changing nation. Our future depends on it." -- Carlo Scissura
