ACEC New York congratulates Gateway Development Commission (GDC) and the Federal Transit Administration on receiving full funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project! New York firms stand ready to support this most impactful infrastructure improvement. Check out a full recap of the announcement from our friends at ACEC New Jersey!
ACECNJ President Joe Fiordaliso joined leaders and stakeholders from across the New Jersey-New York region today for the signing of a $6.8 billion Full Funding Grant Agreement between the Gateway Development Commission (GDC) and the Federal Transit Administration for the Hudson Tunnel Project. GDC also closed on $4.06 billion in loans for fund the local share of the project. This means that GDC - helmed by ACECNJ's dear friend Kris Kolluri - has secured the entire $16 billion commitment needed to complete the Hudson Tunnel Project. This includes $12 billion in federal funding which represents the largest federal funding commitment to a rail transportation project in US history. The Hudson Tunnel Project is expected to create 95,000 jobs and generate $19.6 billion in economic activity. The Hudson Tunnel Project is the signature feature of the Gateway Program, the most consequential infrastructure program in the United States. ACECNJ applauds the leadership of so many elected leaders and public officials who made this historic achievement possible and who attended today's event, including: Senator Cory Booker, Senator Chuck Schumer, Governor Phil Murphy, Governor Kathy Hochul, Congressman Jerry Nadler, Congressman Rob Menendez, Amtrak Board Chair Tony Coscia, United States Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Polly Trottenberg, Federal Transit Administration Acting Administrator Veronica Vanterpool, Federal Railroad Administration Administrator Amit Bose, Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Chair Kevin J. O'Toole, Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Executive Director Rick Cotton, NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin Corbett, New Jersey Department of Transportation Acting Commissioner Francis O'Connor, Chief of Staff to Governor Murphy Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner, and many others. ACECNJ member firms are already playing meaningful roles delivering the Gateway Program and many were in attendance to witness history today! Today we celebrate the end of slavery in the United States. ACEC New York offices are closed today in observance of Juneteenth and will reopen tomorrow, 6/20. ACEC New York embraces acceptance, rejects hate, affirms the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and reaffirms our commitment to continually improve on living these values. "Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later. Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas." - National Museum of African American History & Culture. Learn more at nmaahc.si.edu
