In continuing to showcase nglmitú branded content developed for our clients, presenting our roundtable discussion produced for UnitedHealthcare which we aligned to our #fiercebymitu female empowerment platform. First, a big thank you to our media clients at Horizonmedia, Karina Dobarro, Matthew Pereira, Jesus Hernandez Bach, Ikenna Ijomah, Farrah Starkman, Blerta Hidra, Lindsay Foxen, Isabelle Oakland and Danielle Drucker Armed with the insight that many Latinos today are hesitant to start therapy, we produced this recently launched campaign named “Asking For An Amiga” which was created to help demystify the mental health issues that affect our communities. We've all heard the quote, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” George Santayana, American philosopher (1863-1952). Well starting tomorrow, nglmitú's very own John Leguizamo embarks on a quest to educate the masses with his NEW docu-series that uncovers the lives and contributions of Latino and Latina heroes. “VOCES American Historia: The Untold History of Latinos,” co-created and directed by the talented Ben DeJesus series premieres tomorrow, Friday, September 27 on PBS at 9pm/8pm c with episodes 2 and 3 airing on Oct 4th and 11th. Born from John’s one-man Broadway smash show Latin History For Morons, in which John unpacked thousands of years of history into 90 minutes, his obsession with uncovering Latino contributions to history and society was still not satiated – even after 400+ stage performances! “I get power from this,” says the actor, company partner and activist. “It helps me to keep going in today’s America that is a difficult landscape at the moment.” A John Hopkins University study found that 87% of Latino contributions to the making of America are ABSENT from our history textbooks. Just think about that for a second... and that the little 13% that IS included, actually gets less than five sentences! So, this is OUR corrective for that,” Leguizamo says. John's about to school us all like only he can! Episode 1: Includes the legacy of the Taino, Maya, Aztec and Inca, or as Leguizamo calls them, “The OG civilizations of Latin America.” Episode 2: Explores the Latino roles in the American Revolution and Civil War and the building of the United States. Episode 3: Unravels the fight for Latino civil rights and preserving that cultural history. “American Historia” features over a dozen leading historians, anthropologists and experts, as well as actors reading source material, including Benjamin Bratt, Bryan Cranston, Rosario Dawson, Laurence Fishburne, Ethan Hawke, Edward James Olmos, Rosie Perez, and Liev Schreiber. This is going to be an #iconic history lesson for all of us.
