Interesting new findings from NORC researchers in the Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities shed a light on the complex interplay between race, social factors, and diabetes risk. Their research found that: ➡️ More people with prediabetes return to normal blood glucose levels than progress to diabetes (36% vs 17%) ➡️ Hispanic/Latino adults showed higher diabetes progression risk ➡️ Black adults had lower rates of returning to normal blood sugar levels Congratulations to everyone from NORC and their partners who contributed to this important new research! About us
Together, We Find Evidence for a Better World. NORC at the University of Chicago is an objective, nonpartisan research organization that partners with government, corporate, and nonprofit clients around the world to inform the critical decisions facing society. For more than 80 years, NORC has used proven methods and pioneered new techniques to study the broad spectrum of human experience. We have explored the structural and personal factors that contribute to health and well-being, examined how we best learn at different stages of development, and how education systems contribute to positive and negative outcomes. NORC has charted the nature of employment and work and created deep knowledge about the state of the national economy and our relationship with money and income. We have helped governments around the world design, implement, and evaluate programs to improve the human condition. And we have probed the heart of the American psyche to understand the sometimes-conflicting views that will shape the future of the country. We now look to the future in a context of accelerating change within the industry, growing amounts and types of data, dramatic technological shifts, a dynamic population, and a growing and diversifying set of players in the research and data industries. In this environment, we must chart a course of evolutionary yet bold change that will build upon our traditional strengths to ensure our relevance, impact, and long-term sustainability.

My NORC colleagues have a new brief looking at center-based child care and early education providers (CCEE) capacity in 2019. They found that on average these providers were using almost 90% of their capacity and had limited expansion potential. Check out their new report. https://ow.ly/yC0330sFirF

Misinformation is proving to be one of the most impactful issues of the 21st century— and it can have large impacts on public opinion research as researchers work to navigate an ever- changing landscape. NORC’s Amelia Burke-Garcia joined the American Association for Public Opinion Research's (AAPOR) Public Opinion Podcast (POP) to dissect and review what misinformation means for public opinion researchers and how they can prepare for a future with improved accuracy and data ethics. https://lnkd.in/gGYhwDgx

📢New research alert! At NORC at the University of Chicago's Social Data Collaboratory (SDC), we examined the efficacy of influential account metrics for social media studies, shedding light on crucial tools needed by public health and public opinion researchers to identify influential accounts. Key Takeaways: 📊Effective Metrics: We identified distinct metrics for measuring influential accounts on social media, crucial for understanding discussions around topics. 🌐Metric Diversity: Using a variety of metrics is essential to accurately capture different types of influential accounts and their impact on public health conversations. 🕰️Tailored Research Approaches: Researchers should consider the temporal dimension and account types captured by different metrics to design more effective studies in public health and social media. These insights highlight the importance of leveraging diverse metrics to gain comprehensive insights into how social media influencers shape public health discussions. 📑Read the full study here: https://lnkd.in/dE_Qb4ff 🤝Interested in collaborating on research to address public health challenges in the digital age? Earlier this month, Health Care Strategy team members attended the North American Rare Disease Summit (#NARDS). It was an incredible opportunity to hear from experts, advocates, and others within the rare disease community. A special shout out to Sarah Snyder Rayel, who joined the final panel to present NORC at the University of Chicago’s latest research on the prevalence of sickle cell disease (SCD) among Medicaid enrollees. Our analysis found that Medicaid enrollees with SCD have high annual medical and pharmacy expenditures that are not evenly distributed across the population. It is vital the health care community work to increase access to rare disease therapies, especially for diseases that disproportionately impact Black individuals. You can find our full report attached. Our team is proud to contribute to the ongoing dialogue and efforts to support those affected by rare diseases. #RareDisease #SickleCellDisease #SCD #Medicaid #HealthcareResearch #HealthEquity
